On the March 11th edition of Friday Night SmackDown, Big E took an Overhead Belly-to-Belly Suplex from Ridge Holland at ringside. However, instead of the New Day star landing flat on his back, he landed on his head and neck. While Big E was taken to the backstage area on a stretcher, it was later confirmed that he had broken his neck.
Thankfully the star hadn’t sustained any damage to his spinal chord and has avoided undergoing surgery. In recent months the former World Champion has begun to make more public appearances and has been in attendance at WWE try-outs.
“Blessed And Doing Great” – Big E
Big E has previously stated that his in-ring future is somewhat uncertain, despite doctors predicting that he will make a full recovery from the damage to his C1 and C6 vertebrae. Speaking on the most episode of his podcast, Oh You Didn’t Know… WWE’s Senior Vice President of Live Events Road Dogg (Brian James) offered an update on how the star is getting on. Road Dogg said that he reached out after thinking about friends and family, adding that the former WWE Champion said he was doing great and feeling blessed.
“Big E’s doing well, talking about how blessed he is,” James said. “I hadn’t seen him in a while, hadn’t heard from him. Just thinking about friends and family today and saw his number and thought I’m going to text Big E right now. He said he was blessed and doing great.”
The New Day star’s WWE Championship win in September 2021 following victory in the men’s Money In The Bank Ladder Match was one of the most feel-good moments of the year. During the podcast episode, Road Dogg also confirmed that he pitched for Big E to win the World Championship back in 2019 while he was working as a writer on SmackDown. The spot was instead given to Kofi Kingston, leading to Kofi-Mania and his famous WWE Title win at WrestleMania 35.
“When I wrote SmackDown, I wanted him to be champion,” James continued. “I’ve said this before, I actually pitched Big E Mania and Kofi got the nod. And it worked, maybe better than it would’ve with Big E. Only time will tell if and when he comes back and they put the title on him. He can cut great promos, he’s a great guy, he’s always in great spirits. Just an honor to call him my friend.”
Road Dogg recently sparked chaos online after claiming that he didn’t believe that Bret Hart was a great wrestler. The WWE Hall of Famer later doubled-down on his comments, much to the annoyance of many fans online.
