The Rock On Facing Roman Reigns At WrestleMania 39: “We Were Doing It”

The Rock Unlikely To Return To WWE During Hollywood Writers Strike

The Rock versus Roman Reigns was “locked” to happen, according to The People’s Champion himself.

The Rock was the special guest to Pat McAfee on The Pat McAfee Show and punter-turned-wrestler asked Dwayne Johnson outright if he was set to face his nephew Roman Reigns in Hollywood on the grandest stage of them all at WrestleMania 39. “The Most Electrifying Man” didn’t pull any punches.

“Alright, so The Rock headlining WrestleMania with Roman Reigns, SoFi stadium, that was locked. We were doing it.”

The Rock said that in the beginning of 2022, himself, Nick Khan and Vince McMahon all got together and toasted for the match to happen the following year. They were trying to think about what match they were going to create and how to make it special for the fans. They wanted to make it something bigger where WrestleMania 39 was the beginning, not the end. They got really close, but they decided to put their pencils down and accept that a merger was happening.

Could The Rock Battle Roman At WrestleMania 40?

Unprompted, The Rock did say that battling Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 40 in Philadelphia is a possibility. Just like Vince McMahon, he’s a “big picture” guy.

“I’m open, but again, let’s figure out what that is because the fans deserve something just incredible, unprecedented and not only that, but also want to deliver to the locker room and the boys and the girls back there are working their asses off. What can we do to put them in a position where they’re apart of something that is a new change, an era in this world of pro wrestling.”
