Kenny Omega looks set to face MMA legend Demetrious Johnson at an upcoming AEW event… in Street Fighter?!

On a post to his X account featuring a clip from his MightyCast podcast, Johnson laid down the gauntlet to face Omega at AEW’s inaugural WrestleDream pay-per-view next month in Seattle. However, the bout wouldn’t be in the squared circle but rather in the virtual world of Street Fighter!

“Hey @KennyOmegamanX, I hear you’re pretty good at Street Fighter. How about you put your money where your mouth is and face ME at @AEW WrestleDream in my hometown of Seattle in a 1 v 1 battle in Street Fighter 6! Loser donates to the charity of the winner’s choosing. You game?”

Omega responded just a few hours later and accepted the former UFC Flyweight Champion’s challenge, on the condition money would be on the line for charity! The AEW Executive Vice President also took the time to get a shot in at WWE star and long-time gaming rival Xavier Woods.

“Anyone’s free to insult my wrestling ability but this cockamamie idea that you’re better at Street Fighter than me?! That makes it personal. For charity, I’ll do it – Heck, I can even put you in touch with @AustinCreedWins. You guys can bond over being losers, etc.”

At the time of writing, AEW has yet to confirm if the gaming clash between Omega and Johnson will actually take place at AEW WrestleDream on October 1st. However, it seems the former AEW and UFC champions are more than willing to see who is the better fighting gamer!

Kenny Omega Rejected UpUpDownDown Appearance

Xavier Woods being brought into the conversation inspired a back-and-forth between himself and the AEW Executive Vice President.

In the end, Woods proposed that he, Omega and Johnson face off in a gauntlet of gaming clashes spanning Street Fighter, Tekken and Mortal Kombat on the condition that it took place on UpUpDownDown as Kenny “doesn’t ever do anything on his own company’s gaming channel…”

Omega quickly fired back, jokingly claiming he didn’t want to appear on UpUpDownDown either and that Woods would have to replace his face with a mosaic pattern to blur it out.
