Bret Hart is widely regarded as one of the greatest of all time, but The Hitman believes that there’s a current WWE star who deserves to join him on that list
During an appearance on the Johnny I Pro Show, Hart discussed his dream matches from wrestling’s past and present. After name-checking the likes of Roman Reigns, Brock Lesnar, John Cena, and CM Punk, the legend turned his attention to Rey Mysterio.
Hart said that Mysterio doesn’t really get the credit he deserves, commenting that he may well be one of the best ever. Hart added that very few wrestlers have the respect that he has for the Lucha Libre legend.
“I’ll say this like one of the greatest, maybe the greatest wrestlers of all time that people don’t often forget about or don’t recognize. Rey Mysterio is maybe one of the greatest. I wish I could have had one match with Rey Mysterio just to be in the ring with him. He’s one of my favorites and is always a class act. Very few wrestlers have the respect that I have for Rey Mysterio.”
Bret Hart and Rey Mysterio did both work with WCW during the same period in the late 1990s, however, Mysterio was far from the giant-killing main event-level star that he would later become.
Bret Hart Highly Critical Of Modern Wrestling
Bret Hart found himself back in the headlines in March after delivering a scathing assessment of the state of modern wrestling. The multiple-time World Champion and WWE Hall of Famer discussed watching WWE Clash at the Castle from ringside while slamming the match between Gunther and Sheamus. He added that he was “embarrassed” to be in the crowd for the show.
