Real Reason Jey Uso Lost To Roman Reigns

Jey Uso & Roman Reigns at WWE SummerSlam

Roman Reigns pinned Jey Uso at SummerSlam to score another win and the result was never in doubt.

The victory came at the end of a wild contest for not only the Undisputed Universal WWE Championship but also the title of Tribal Chief. The end to the tense affair came with Jey being betrayed by his brother Jimmy who interfered to hand victory to Reigns.

While Reigns was always expected to win, it’s been reported that Reigns’ path has been somewhat locked in for a number of months. Appearing on Maguire on Wrestling, Dave Meltzer surmised that WWE’s endgame will see Cody Rhodes pin Roman Reigns to win the World Title.

“I’d never heard anyone (in WWE) even discuss that (Jey winning) as a possibility.

Whatever it is, they’ve got plans going for Roman as champion for months down the line. So Jey wasn’t gonna win. I know you could make the same (argument) about, well, that’s why Cody and Sami shouldn’t have won, but, you know, Sami was much hotter than Jey.

And whatever they had their direction that they were gonna go in with Cody, they could’ve had Cody win, they could’ve had Cody lose. The fact is, the business stayed good, so they weren’t wrong.

Could you say business might have been better with Cody? I think a little bit for the first couple of months, but this was their direction. They wanna build it, and they… I’ve got to think Cody’s eventually winning it. So it’s just a question of keeping him hot enough…”

What Next For Roman Reigns?

Roman Reigns is set to appear on the August 11th episode of SmackDown despite picking up an injury at SummerSlam. The exact nature of the injury is unknown, but Reigns isn’t expected to miss any of his advertised dates and creative plans for him will continue as scheduled.

Following the conclusion of SummerSlam, WWE released a video on their YouTube Channel that documented Jey Uso’s journey to the main event.
