Tony Khan Would Love To Have Rob Van Dam Back In AEW

Rob Van Dam AEW

Tony Khan loves the reaction that Rob Van Dam got at AEW Collision and would love to see more of it in the near future.

AEW hosted a media call ahead of WrestleDream this weekend and Inside The Ropes asked him about having Rob Van Dam appear for the company on two occassions and if he’d like work with the WWE Hall Of Famer further.

Khan talked about how he saw inviting RVD back as a full-circle moment, not just because it was in Van Dam’s home state of Michigan, but because he got to tag with Taz’s son Hook. Khan mentioned how his dad, Shad Khan, praised the toughness of Taz to Hook at the first AEW Grand Slam and knew Rob Van Dam would be a great compliment to the FTW Champion.

“I thought RVD would be a great partner for him, a great foil in Hook’s previous story and then now partner for Hook himself and they had a really fun match. The Collision episode did a great rating…”

Khan said they were up against the toughest college football competition in over 30 years and still put up amazing numbers.

“RVD was a great part of it. The Michigan fans were very excited to see him. He got a great reaction in the live arena and the show did a great rating. I think he’s been here on a case-by-case, show by show basis, but we love having him and I’d certainly be open to Rob returning in the very near future as we said when I saw him this past weekend, he’s doing a great job and we’d love to have him back so great to have Rob here anytime he’s available to do it and anytime it makes sense for everyone.”

Rob Van Dam also took the time to reflect on his tag team match with Hook recently, calling the experience “a full circle moment.”

During the call, Tony Khan also confirmed that Wardlow will return to television when the time is right.

Tony Khan Has Long Ties To Rob Van Dam

Tony Khan has mentioned before how much he was a fan of ECW as a kid and was even in attendance for the notorious stretcher match in 1996 that had Rob Van Dam battling Sabu. Khan has made sure AEW has showcased both men on its product, with RVD partaking in two matches and three total appearances while Sabu played an enforcer of sorts between Chris Jericho and Adam Cole at AEW Double Or Nothing earlier this year. In a recent interview, RVD said he has no plans to retire anytime soon.
