Stratus began her wrestling journey after appearing on several covers of fitness magazines. Her work as a fitness model caught the attention of WWE talent scouts and she was swiftly signed to a multi-year contract. Upon joining the company in 1999 she was sent to Sully’s Gym, trained by legendary Canadian wrestler Ron Hutchison.

The following year, Stratus made her WWE debut. On an episode of Sunday Night Heat, she appeared scouting out wrestler Test and Albert. She began appearing alongside the duo now going by T&A as their valet. A few months later she made her competitive in-ring debut in a match against the Hardy Boyz and Lita.

In 2001, Stratus became involved in the McMahon family storyline. Stratus began an on-screen relationship with Vince McMahon much to the chagrin of his daughter Stephanie. The two became embroiled in a feud that saw the McMahons turn on and humiliate Stratus. However, she got her revenge on them at WrestleMania X7 when she slapped McMahon across the face and took out Stephanie as he lost the match to his son Shane.

Following the angle, Stratus returned to the ring. At InVasion she teamed with Lita against the WCW team of Stacy Keibler and Torrie Wilson. However, during the match, she suffered an ankle injury, which sidelined her for several months. Upon her return to action, she began a rivalry with Jazz and at Survivor Series, she won her first Women’s Championship.

In the following weeks, Jazz regained the championship. Stratus briefly won the Hardcore title before winning the women’s title for the second time. After dropping the title to Molly Holly, Stratus won it back at Unforgiven in 2002. Her next feud saw her go into battle against Victoria, who defeated her for the title in a Hardcore match at Survivor Series.

Stratus won the title for the fourth time at WrestleMania XIX defeating Victoria and Jazz in the process. however, Jazz won the title back at the following PPV, Backlash.

Stratus then teamed with Lita in a feud against Molly Holly and Gail Kim. Stratus then turned heel when she betrayed Chris Jericho to side with Christian at WrestleMania XX. Following the turn, she captured the women’s title for a fifth time at Bad Blood. Remaining a heel she entered a feud with Lita, which saw them become the first women to headline an episode of Monday Night Raw. Lita defeated Stratus for the title in the historic match but she regained the sixth time at New Year’s Revolution.

After suffering a back injury she was sidelined for four months but remained champion. Upon her return, she entered a program with the debuting Mickie James who declared she was Stratus’ number one fan. Initially starting out as friends their relationship soured when James’ obsessive fandom crossed the line and she kissed Stratus. The feud saw them clash at WrestleMania 22, which was widely regarded as one of the best WWE women’s matches at the time.

Stratus rekindled her rivalry with Lita after she interfered in the title rematch with James. The feud led to the two crossing paths for the final time at Unforgiven in 2006. Stratus defeated Lita for the Women’s Championship for the record-setting seventh time. Following the win, Stratus retired from WWE and vacated the title in the process.
