Stephanie Marie McMahon Levesque, better known as simply Stephanie McMahon, was born in Hartford Connecticut on September 24th, 1976. The daughter of Vincent K. and Linda McMahon, Stephanie is a fourth-generation wrestling promoter as part of the McMahon family which also includes her brother, Shane.

Stephanie McMahon began working for the then-WWF when she was just 13, modelling for the company’s merchandise catalogues. After graduating from Boston University with a BSc in Communications in 1998, McMahon began her business career in the company as an Account Executive.

McMahon made her first on-screen appearance on the November 30th, 1998 episode of Monday Night Raw as an extra during a backstage segment with Stone Cold Steve Austin. The following year, she became a regular on the show as she became involved in Vince McMahon’s feud with The Undertaker.

Her early appearances saw her being kidnapped by The Deadman and being forced to take part in a Dark Wedding, although Austin saved her from having to go through with the nuptials. It was later revealed that her father had been working with The Undertaker all along as part of a ploy to take out The Texas Rattlesnake. However, things backfired when Stephanie joined her mother, Linda, in making Austin the CEO of the WWF in revenge for Vince’s actions.

Later in the year, she began an onscreen romance with the wrestler Test. Shane McMahon refused to accept the relationship, leading to a “Love her or leave her” match at SummerSlam, which Test won. Soon after, the couple became engaged, but during the wedding ceremony, Triple H revealed that he had drugged McMahon and married her in Las Vegas.

This led to a feud between Triple H and Vince McMahon – who had reconnected with Stephanie – culminating in a no Holds Barred at Armageddon that December where Stephanie turned heel for the first time, betraying her father to side with The Game.

With Vince out of the picture, Stephanie and Triple H took control of the WWF, ushering in the McMahon-Helmsley Era to kick off the new millennium. The couple were the head of a group that dominated the company and featured D-Generation X and Tori. At WrestleMania 16, Vince and Shane McMahon made amends with Stephanie and joined the group as well.

During this period, Stephanie McMahon captured the WWF World Women’s Championship with help from the rest of her faction, a title she held for five months, although she rarely defended it. She eventually lost the championship to Lita when The Rock, who was the guest referee, fought off attempts at interference from McMahon’s allies before giving her a Spinebuster and handing Lita the win.

Despite most of the McMahons banding together, Linda refused to join them, this led to Vince having an affair with Trish Stratus and Linda becoming comatose due to stress. The McMahon family drama continued through to 2001, with Stephanie berating and physically abusing Stratus, seemingly out of jealousy. Shane McMahon, who had been out of action since SummerSlam the previous year, sided with Linda and returned to confront Vince for his actions.

At WrestleMania 17 in 2001, Shane defeated Vince in a Street Fight that saw Linda get out of her wheelchair and give Vince a Low-blow while Trish Stratus finally got her hands on Stephanie, with the pair fighting out of the arena.

In March 2001, Vince McMahon purchased WWE’s former rival, WCW. Onscreen, however, it was revealed on the final edition of WCW Nitro that Shane McMahon had beaten his father to it and was now the owner of the company. This led to the ‘Invasion’ of WWE by WCW wrestlers beginning shortly after WrestleMania. Weeks later, as the WCW and WWE rivalry was heating up, ECW was added to the invasion with Stephanie McMahon at the forefront as the company’s new ‘owner’.

The WCW and ECW Alliance was to be short-lived as, at Survivor Series that November Stephanie and Shane’s handpicked team was defeated by Vince’s WWE team in a Winner Takes All elimination match. With The Alliance finished, the siblings were banished from WWE.

Stephanie McMahon returned to WWE alongside Triple H the following January, but the pair ended up getting into relationship difficulties and ultimately divorced. Stephanie then sided with Undisputed WWE Champion Chris Jericho in the lead-up to her ex-husband’s title match against him at WrestleMania 18.

Triple H overcame Jericho to capture the title despite his former wife’s interference. The following night on Raw, The Game pinned Stephanie in a Triple Threat match for the title. Due to an added stipulation for the bout, this meant she was once again forced to leave the company.

Behind the scenes, Stephanie’s star had begun to rise in the creative side of WWE. After holding several positions, in 2002 she was named the company’s Head Writer following the departure of Chris Kreski, who had been in the role since 1999.

In July of that year, McMahon once again returned to WWE TV as the General Manager of SmackDown, portraying a fan-favourite character for the first time in three years in opposition to Raw General Manager Eric Bischoff, who was a heel. During her time in the role, she brought back the WWE United States Championship and gave SmackDown its own Tag Team Championship.

In 2003, Stephanie entered a feud with her father after interfering in his affair with Sable. This led to a Father-Daughter I Quit Match at that year’s No Mercy in October. The match ended with Linda McMahon throwing in the towel for her daughter as Vince choked her with a pipe. The defeat also meant Stephanie was no longer the GM of SmackDown.

For the next few years, Stephanie McMahon only appeared onscreen occasionally as part of storylines involving other members of her family. Memorably, this included confronting her father over the discovery he had an illegitimate child who was on the WWE roster. This turned out to be Fit Finlay’s ‘Leprechaun’ sidekick, Hornswoggle.

Outside the ring, Stephanie married Triple H during this time and continued her rise in WWE. In 2006, she was promoted to Senior Vice President of Creative Writing, and the following year was named Executive Vice President of Creative, which gave her the responsibility of overseeing creative for all WWE TV and pay-per-view content. It was in this position that Stephanie worked with The Creative Coalition to launch the ‘Be a STAR’ anti-bullying campaign.

Stephanie McMahon returned to WWE TV in a more full-time role in 2008, once again taking the role of an authority figure, this time as the GM of Raw. In 2009, Randy Orton, alongside The Legacy, began a feud with the McMahon family by Punt-Kicking Vince in the head.

The rivalry also saw Orton punting Shane McMahon and delivering an RKO to Stephanie. This led to Triple H successfully defending the WWE Championship against Orton at WrestleMania 25, although he lost it to The Viper the following month at Backlash, leading to several weeks away from TV at which time Stephanie also left the screen.

Another lengthy absence from TV followed, with only occasional cameo appearances. On the corporate side of things, Stephanie’s duties increased further when she was promoted to Chief Brand Officer in 2013. This involved working with WWE’s partners and enhancing the company’s reputation.

Also in 2013, McMahon made a full-time return to WWE programming, taking control of the company alongside Triple H with the pair calling themselves The Authority. The pair aligned themselves with Randy Orton, assisting him in becoming WWE Champion by cashing in the Money in the Bank contract on Bryan Danielson – then known as Daniel Bryan.

he group entered a lengthy rivalry with Danielson, claiming he was a ‘B+ Player’ who couldn’t be the face of WWE. At WrestleMania 30, Danielson defeated Triple H to earn a spot in the main event where he overcame both Randy Orton and Batista to recapture the title, which had since merged with the World Heavyweight Championship to become the one World title in WWE.

During the feud with Danielson, Stephanie McMahon stepped in the ring for the first time in several years to take on his wife, Brie Bella at SummerSlam in 2014. McMahon won thanks to help from Brie’s sister, Nikki.

The Authority continued to be a dominant force in WWE for several years and feuded with the likes of John Cena and The Shield. During The Shield rivalry, Seth Rollins turned on Roman Reigns and Jon Moxley – then known as Dean Ambrose – and joined The Authority instead.

Stephanie and Triple H were briefly ousted from power after John Cena led a team of fan favourites to defeat them at the 2014 Survivor Series. However, John Cena was forced to bring them back when Rollins took Edge hostage and threatened to break his neck.

In 2015, McMahon used he onscreen power to kickstart the ‘Women’s Revolution’ by bringing Becky Lynch, Charlotte, and Sasha Banks to the main roster from NXT.

In February 2016, Shane McMahon made his return to WWE and Vince decided both Shane and Stephanie would run the brand together, ending The Authority’s reign over the company. Later, the WWE Chairman made Shane Commissioner of SmackDown instead, with Stephanie holding the same position in Raw. She continued to be a presence on TV until WrestleMania 33 the following April, where she was accidentally sent flying through a table by Triple H during his match with Seth Rollins.

Later in the year, teams from Raw and SmackDown faced off at Survivor Series with Stephanie telling the Raw GM, Kurt Angle, that his role was on the line in the bout. Raw was able to come out on top at the event, however, Triple H turned on Angle during the match, hitting him with a Pedigree to allow Shane McMahon to pin him before dropping Shane with the same move to win the match for the Red Brand.

Tensions with Kurt Angle continued for some time and resulted in him teaming with the newly signed Ronda Rousey to defeat Triple H and Stephanie at WrestleMania 34 with McMahon tapping out to Rousey’s Armbar.

Since then, McMahon has only made occasional appearances on TV, most notably in 2018 to announce the first-ever all-women WWE pay-per-view, Evolution. She has also turned up to make matches, announce draft picks and support her husband and brother in their endeavours.

In June 2022, Stephanie McMahon was named the interim Chairwoman and CEO of WWE while the company’s Board investigated misconduct allegations against her father. The following month, Vince McMahon retired and Stephanie became the most powerful woman in wrestling when she was made the permanent WWE Chairwoman and co-CEO alongside Nick Khan.

Stephanie McMahon and Triple H were the driving force behind Connor’s Cure, a charity named in honour of Connor Michalek, who passed away following a battle with medulloblastoma, a rare form of cancer. Connor’s Cure provides funds for paediatric brain and spinal cancer research and medical care for children and their families.

McMahon is also heavily involved in other charities such as the WWE-supported Make-A-Wish Foundation, the Susan G. Komen Foundation, and the ChadTough Foundation.
