WWE Smackdown Results – August 25, 2023

This week on SmackDown, WWE honored paid tribute to Terry Funk and Bray Wyatt along with four matches.

SmackDown took place at the KFC Yum Center in Louisville, Kentucky with Michael Cole, Corey Graves & Kevin Patrick on commentary.

There were graphics shown for both Terry Funk and Bray Wyatt saying this show was “In Memory Of” both of them.

The WWE roster and staff were on the stage. That included the injured Braun Strowman and former WWE superstar Erick Rowan as well. They were standing beside Triple H and Cody Rhodes in the front. Michael Cole was at ringside mentioning the death of Terry Funk and Bray Wyatt. Cole said we will honor them tonight.

There was a ten bell salute as the talent and staff on the stage bowed their heads in honor of their Terry Funk and Bray Wyatt.

A video package aired about Bray Wyatt’s incredible WWE career from when he started in the company 14 years ago until the end of his run that happened far too soon.

The fans chanted “Thank You Bray.” The fans sang “he’s got the whole world in his hands” for Bray because we know that song was his song.

There was a rocking chair shown on the stage in front of the talent the stage. They put a spotlight on the chair that Bray used to sit on.

Match #1:Rey Mysterio defeated Grayson Waller with a Drop the Dime splash off the top after a 619 kick. – Austin Theory tried to interfere, but Santos Escobar took care of him.

Throughout the show, they had photos of Terry Funk and Bray Wyatt while showing some Tweets/X comments from people in wrestling that knew them and will miss them.

Match #2: IYO SKY defeated Zelina Vega to retain the WWE Women’s Title. – SKY won clean with her top rope Over The Moonsault.

Cody Rhodes did a promo paying tribute to Terry Funk. Cody put over Terry for being hardcore and a cowboy.

A video package aired about the life and legacy of the WWE Hall of Famer Terry Funk.

After the video, Cody said the next tag team match would be a Terry Funk Hardcore Match.

Match #3: The Street Profits (Montez Ford & Angelo Dawkins) defeated The Brawling Bruts (Ridge Holland & Butch) in a Terry Funk Hardcore Match. – It was like a tornado tag team match. Bobby Lashley arrived at ringside and took out Butch with a Spear since Butch bumped into him during the match. They didn’t use any weapons except The Profits hit their double team move The Reveleation on Ridge through a table and Ford pinned Ridge to win.

LA Knight did an in-ring promo talking about how tonight is about Bray Wyatt. Knight mentioned his history with Wyatt saying they didn’t always get along, but Bray was getting him ready for what was coming in his career.

LA Knight also addressed The Miz while mocking him for bragging about how good he thinks he is. Knight challenged The Miz to a match anywhere he wants.

As the Knight/Balor match began, Corey Graves said that WWE has made it official – LA Knight will face The Miz at Payback.

Match #4: LA Knight defeated Finn Balor. – Clean win for Knight hitting the BFT (Blount Force Trauma) for the pinfall win.

The lights went out in the arena, they showed a lantern in the ring and the fireflies (fans) lit up the arena with their cell phone light. They showed an image of Wyatt on the screen. The fans were chanting “Thank You Bray” for all the wonderful memories. The camera zoomed in on the lantern in the ring and then it faded out. End show.

* John Cena returns.

* Rey Mysterio & Santos Escobar vs. Austin Theory & Grayson Waller

* Jimmy Uso returns. That was set for this week, but they pushed it back to next week.
