AEW Championship Match Seemingly Scrapped

AEW Championship Match Seemingly Scrapped

It appears that a planned AEW World Tag Team Championship match has been scrapped.

According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, there has been a change of plans regarding the AEW World Tag Team Title match. The Young Bucks, who won a four-team match at WrestleDream, were expected to challenge for the Tag Team Championships. However, their shot at the titles was not mentioned during AEW programming this week.

The belief right now is that everything has changed. The Young Bucks won the four-team match at WrestleDream to earn a tag title match, but when they returned to television this past week, the announcers never brought up them being in line for a tag title or winning that match. In fact, as best I can tell, the four-way win hasn’t been talked about in weeks.

Speculations are now circulating that FTR, the former tag team champions, will challenge for the titles in a rematch against Big Bill and Ricky Starks at the highly anticipated Full Gear PPV. Big Bill and Ricky Starks won the titles from FTR on the October 7th episode of Collision and made a successful defence of their titles on the October 21st episode against the Blackpool Combat Club’s Claudio Castagnoli and Wheeler Yuta.

How Long Did FTR Hold The AEW World Tag Team Championship?

FTR first won the AEW World Tag Team Championship in September of 2020 at All Out, capturing the titles from Adam Page and Kenny Omega, FTR held the titles for 63 days. FTR then lost the titles to The Young Bucks before reclaiming them for a second time in a title vs. career match where FTR defeated The Gunns to recapture the gold. FTR held the titles in their second run for 185 days, taking their combined total to 248 days.

In a new report regarding creative, it is said that AEW’s plans are causing turmoil and leaving the talent very frustrated as a result.
