Charlotte Flair – “I Am Breaking” Ric Flair’s Record

Charlotte Flair entrance on SmackDown

Charlotte Flair has confidently declared that she will break the record of 16 World Championship wins held by her father, Ric Flair, and John Cena.

Flair has been without gold since dropping the WWE SmackDown Women’s Championship to Rhea Ripley on night two of WrestleMania 39 in Los Angeles this past April, but revealed in an interview with Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated that she remains determined to break the impressive record:

“I’m breaking the record. I’m so close. For so long, I stayed away from discussing it. But I’ve done every single thing there is to do, and this is my next goal. I want to keep getting better and see where I can take this character.”

Charlotte Flair Wants To Break Record At WrestleMania

The 14-time Champion has also set her heart on breaking the record at WrestleMania. ‘The Queen’ has been in a Championship match in all seven of her previous appearances at WWE’s most anticipated Premium Live Event of the year but insists that statistic has never been a deliberate target:

“That wasn’t a goal, it just happened along the way. I’m betting on myself being the champion or challenger.”

The 2020 Womens Royal Rumble winner, alongside Becky Lynch and Ronda Rousey, made history in 2019 as they became the first women to headline WrestleMania. It is a moment Flair understandably looks back on with great fondness:

“I loved WrestleMania 35. Being in the main event, that was a surreal moment. When I walked out of the curtain that night, there was such a calmness. I used to be scared of my own shadow, and there I was, main-eventing New York-New Jersey.”

The Charlotte, NC born Superstar was unsuccessful in her most recent tilt at the WWE Women’s Championship, with Bianca Belair defeating Flair and Asuka to lift the gold at SummerSlam on August 5th at Detroit’s Ford Field.

In the same interview, Flair revealed the pressures felt while performing at WrestleMania.
