Some In AEW “Really Down” About CM Punk’s Release

CM Punk on AEW Collision

News of CM Punk’s release from AEW has divided fan opinion and seemingly the reaction of the AEW locker room.

CM Punk is no longer All Elite.

On September 2nd 2023 AEW would announced that they had terminated CM Punk’s contract “with cause” following an internal investigation into an alleged physical altercation with Jack Perry during All In.

The reaction online, as expected, has been split with some fans glad to see Punk leave and AEW hopefully moving passed the drama that has surrounded him in recent years. While others are angered that Punk has, in their opinion, been punished while others, such as The Elite and Jack Perry, have gotten away scot free.

But it is not just social media that is divided, according to a report from PWInsider, the AEW locker room’s reaction to Punk’s dismissal is split.

The report notes that some are “really down” following the news whilst others are “happy” to see Punk leave AEW.

The report also notes that there are some who are simply happy that Tony Khan has made a definitive decision and that the company can begin to move passed this and focus on AEW.

WWE Hall of Famer Eric Bischoff has claimed that Tony Khan made the correct call by firing CM Punk, applauding the AEW owner for making the right call despite how difficult it may have been.

What Was CM Punk’s Last AEW Match?

CM Punk’s final AEW match was also the biggest of his career, at least from an attendance POV.

CM Punk took on long time rival Samoa Joe in the opening contest of AEW’s All In PPV in August 2023.

Punk would defeat Samoa Joe via Pepsi Plunge to secure the victory in his final AEW appearance.

The AEW locker room aren’t alone is discussing CM Punk’s release, it has been revealed that CM Punk has been “discussed heavily” in WWE ahead of tonight’s Payback PLE.
