Baron Corbin Believes He Should Be A Future Roman Reigns Challenger

Could Roman Reigns’ next challenger be someone who has already defeated him in the past?

With LA Knight becoming the latest casualty to The Tribal Chief’s lengthy reign as Universal Champion, there are few names left on the main roster who are fresh and viable opponents for Reigns. However, a former United States Champion has been biding his time in NXT and believes that his time could be soon if the positive fan momentum continues.

Consistently booed on the main roster, Corbin has started to see a resurgence as an unlikely babyface in NXT. Not only did Corbin receive an outstanding ovation at a recent live event in France, but he was also billed as the babyface in a match against Olympic gold medalist Gable Steveson at the Great American Bash.

Speaking with Sam Roberts, Corbin acknowledged how strange it is that he is getting cheered by fans and believes that if the organic rise continues he could return to the main event of an upcoming Premium Live Event:

“Your boy was getting cheered [laughs]. Such a weird world we live in right now where Baron Corbin gets cheered. [Inaudible] love it right now. Just because it’s going against what’s supposed to be happening. Sometimes, I want that anarchy, that mayhem, that madness. You know what, if people start loving what I do and really get behind it, I could be the guy to go against Roman Reigns because he needs a guy like that. It’d be a fun switch.

Corbin and Reigns feuded throughout the end of 2019, where the former United States Champion picked up a rare pinfall victory over The Tribal Chief on November 8th. As Jey Uso pinned Reigns in a tag team match, Corbin is still the last Superstar to pin Reigns in a one-on-one contest. Roman Reings will next defend the title at the Royal Rumble and is scheduled to appear at an upcoming SmackDown taping to address his next defence.

Baron Corbin Looks Back On Infamous Roman Reigns Angle

Many would like to forget parts of the rivalry between Corbin and Reigns in 2019, with Corbin taking Reigns’ “Big Dog” nickname too far and pouring dog food on the current Undisputed Champion. As Corbin and Reigns are miles apart from their 2019 characters, the former King of the Ring believes that this would be a fresh matchup:

The last time I worked with Roman, I was pouring dog food on him. Not a fun time for him. I also almost vomited with the dog food. But it would be a flip. He’s killing it right now, but if people get behind me, it would almost feel, and here’s why I like it, it’s fresh. It feels new. When they’re behind me, it’s like, dude, it’s not the same person you saw. When we were doing the Bum Ass Corbin, Sad Corbin, they were starting to turn and feel bad for me. But now it’s like they’re excited for me,”

In a bizarre change of character, Baron Corbin was briefly paired with Hall of Famer. Looking back on the pairing, Corbin admitted that he felt like he was drowning.

H/t to Fightful.
