Winter is coming results thumb

Keep up with all of tonight’s AEW Dynamite Winter Is Coming results as Dynamite’s 62nd episode emanates from Daily’s Place in Jacksonville, Florida with a jam-packed card!

Matches and segments announced for tonight’s show include:

  • Britt Baker vs Leyla Hirsch
  • Chris Jericho vs Frankie Kazarian
  • Darby Allin & Cody Rhodes vs Team Taz (Powerhouse Hobbs & Ricky Starks)
  • Dynamite Diamond Battle Royale (featuring Private Party, John Silver, Alex Reynolds, Matt Hardy, Hangman Page, Sammy Guevara, Matt Sydal, Scorpio Sky, Shawn Spears, Orange Cassidy, Kip Sabian, Miro, and Wardlow)
  • Jon Moxley (c) vs Kenny Omega for the AEW World Championship

MJF & Orange Cassidy win the Dynamite Diamond Battle Royale in 12:51

  • Shawn Spears and Scorpio Sky stare down each other as the match kicks off as every else rushes into the ring.
  • Hangman eliminates several competitors with the help of Dark Order before Scorpio eliminates Spears. Tully gives Spears the loaded glove which Spears uses to knockout Sky, allowing Wardlow to easily eliminate him.
  • Matt Hardy almost eliminates Adam Page but Dark Order save him. Page hits the Buckshot Lariat on Marq Quen before Hardy manages to throw him out the other side.
  • Kip Sabian pulls Orange Cassidy out under the bottom rope and Miro follows, launching Cassidy into the ring post.
  • Miro dominates as he gets back in the ring, eliminating four men in a row before Inner Circle gang upon him.
  • Miro throws them off and Wardlow exchanges offence before Wardlow ultimately knocks Miro down and eliminates him with the help of MJF & Guevara.
  • MJF accidentally(?) eliminates Guevara whilst he tries eliminating Jungle Boy. There’s some miscommunication between Wardlow and MJF, allowing Cassidy to hit multiple Orange Punches on the duo and eliminating Wardlow.
  • MJF and Orange Cassidy advance to next week, where they’ll face off for the Dynamite Diamond Ring!

Analysis: A fun little battle royale that was a lot cleaner than last year’s edition! This was, by far, Miro’s best showing yet and there were multiple teases of dissension between MJF/Guevara and, interestingly, MJF/Wardlow. Despite not winning, it took three members of Inner Circle working together to eliminate him after he took out four other competitors. I get the video game gimmick was to give him a fresh start, but this dominant side is SO much more interesting. Cassidy & MJF is a fresh match-up and excited to see what they’ll bring next week!

Chris Jericho defeats Frankie Kazarian via Pinfall in 10:34

  • The two start off with a collar and elbow tie-up but Jericho riles Kazarian up by throwing handkerchiefs at him. Kazarian tries to lock up with Jericho again but Jericho pokes him in the eye, causing him to roll out the ring.
  • Hager attempts to clothesline Kazarian but the SCU member dodges but Jericho manages to hit a Codebreaker whilst Kazarian was stuck in the rope.
  • Jericho maintains control for the majority of the match as he continually distracts the referee, allowing Ortiz and Hager to keep Kazarian grounded.
  • Jericho attempts a double axe handle from the middle rope but Kazarian counters with a gut punch before the two get into a striking contest, which Jericho breaks with a standing suplex.
  • Kazarian regains control after countering the Lionsault before hitting a springboard leg drop and a top rope Flux Capacitor, both for separate near-falls.
  • Kazarian manages to lock in the Walls of Jericho after countering the Codebreaker. Ortiz teases breaking up the hold but Hager stops him to avoid Jericho getting disqualified.
  • MJF appears on the ramp and teases throwing in a towel but Guevara takes it before MJF can throw it in. Jericho gets to the rope and seeing Guevara with the towel, allowing Kazarian to get two near-falls via roll-up before Jericho hit the Judas Effect to pick up the win!
  • Guevara, MJF, Wardlow and Hager all attempt to brawl after the match and Jericho says they have a week to work together or The Inner Circle break up… FOREVER.

Analysis: Good match between Kazarian and Jericho though I would have liked to see a little less interference, especially when it was so blatantly in Aubrey’s line of sight at multiple points and she had to just blatantly ignore it. Good singles showing from Kazarian though, something that’s rarer than I’d like. Kinda surprised how quick the dissension in Inner Circle has progressed and lead to Jericho saying the group might disband. Two weeks ago they were mostly friendly in Vegas but after two incidents this week, Jericho suddenly feels threatened enough to break up the whole group? Felt like we’ve missed a week or two of build on this.

The Acclaim Confront The Young Bucks

  • Marvez announces Bucks/Hybird2 in a non-title match next week.
  • The Acclaim interrupt the interview and insult Young Bucks’ book with a rap before Hybird 2 attack the tag champions from behind. SCU manage to chase them away to end the segment.

Britt Baker defeats Leyla Hirsch via Submission in 9:19

  • Baker teases Hirsch about her height before getting locked in an armbar which she breaks via the rope. Hirsch continues to outwrestle Baker, locking in several submissions.
  • Baker regains control and locks in a headlock with her legs, which Hirsch manages to reverse into a pinfall attempt twice before Baker releases the hold.
  • Hirsch accidentally hits Rebel with a tope suicida after Baker dodges, but Baker doesn’t seem to care.
  • Hirsch hits a knee strike before locking in a Cross Armbreaker. Britt tries to counter into the Lockjaw but Hirsch counters again.
  • Hirsch tries to go up to the top rope but Rebel distracts her, allowing Baker to take her down and lock in the Lockjaw for the win.
  • Thunder Rosa attacks Baker after the match and the two are separated by several referees and officials. Hirsch hits Rebel with a german suplex in the chaos.

Analysis: Great back-and-forth technical bout between Hirsch and Baker – Hirsch really impressed me here! She managed to outwrestle Baker continually throughout the match, with the doctor only managing to defeat her thanks to a distraction from Rebel. Rosa vs Baker will be great and it seems like they might even be teasing Rebel vs Hirsch, maybe on Dark? Wouldn’t complain about more than one women’s feud on Dynamite though!

Darby Allin & Cody Rhodes defeat Team Taz via Pinfall in 10:32, STING DEBUTS

  • Team Taz assault Cody and Darby as soon as they get in the ring and things break down. Cody and Darby gain control early by beating down Starks, keeping him in their corner and tagging each other in and out.
  • Hobbs tries to taunt Cody in an attempt to distract him but the former TNT champion responds with a middle finger.
  • Darby is whipped to the outside after Starks finds an opening, allowing Hobbs to manhandle the TNT Champion and toss him into the barricades and around the ring.
  • Hobbs continues to keep Darby isolated from his partner using his power but a miscommunication between Hobbs and Starks allowed Cody to tag in and take down Starks with a powerslam.
  • Taz distracts the referee, allowing Starks to poke Cody in the eye. Cody takes down Hobbs with a Disaster Kick and attempts a Cross Rhodes which Starks counters.
  • Darby tags in as Cody hits a top rope cutter and hits Hobbs with a Tope Suicida, allowing the TNT champion to hit the Coffin Drop to pick up the win.
  • Hobbs attacks after the bell and Arn attempts to disrupt it, before both Team Taz members take him down. Dustin Rhodes then runs out but is taken down by Brian Cage. Cody is held down as the lights go out before STING appears!
  • Sting makes his way to the ring and stares down everyone: Arn, Cody and Darby, before leaving.

Analysis: The match itself was fairly slow but the finish picked up and made for a really endearing quickfire end with Darby pinning Starks with the Coffin Drop. Team Taz clear the ring and look to finish Cody off once and for all before STING made his debut! I’ll be honest in saying I haven’t seen much from The Stinger beyond his WWE run but even with that, this was INCREDIBLE. The presentation, music, his slow confrontations with everyone… *chef’s kiss*. Looks like he’ll be wrestling too as he appeared in gear, so excited to see where he goes from here.

Hikaru Shida Interviewed By Alex Marvez

  • Shida says she isn’t afraid of someone doing zombie cosplay. Shida gets freaked out by scaffolding falling in the background and asks if they can restart.
  • After Marvez points out they’re live and can’t do it over, Shida awkwardly leaves.

Kenny Omega defeats Jon Moxley via Pinfall, winning the AEW World Championship in 28:31

  • In a pre-match promo, Moxley says there’s some magic in the air tonight and says the stakes couldn’t be higher. He says there’s only one thing left to do: Go out there and make the crowds go absolutely banana – A subtle reference to the late Pat Patterson.
  • The two feel each other out at a slow pace with an exchange of headlocks. The pace quickens early though with both exchanging strikes before Omega attempted the Terminator Dive and Moxley countered with a clothesline.
  • Both men countered each other’s offence on the outside with Moxley gaining the upper hand after hitting a suplex and running Omega into the barricade.
  • Moxley catapults Omega into a ring post before hitting a dragon screw leg whip in the ropes to exploit Moxley’s left knee injury. Omega continues to focus on the knee, and hitting a springboard dropkick and locking in a kneebar on it which Moxley breaks up via rope break.
  • Moxley manages to counter Omega’s You Can’t Escape and focuses on Omega’s neck to debilitate the One Winged Angel. Whilst locking in a Sleeper, Moxley manages to attempt a crucifix
  • Omega attempts a Springboard manoeuvre but Moxley counters into the Paradigm Shift and DOESN’T maker the cover. Moxley gets two chairs and throws them into the ring.
  • Omega and Moxley sit down on the chairs in the middle of the ring and the two exchange BRUTAL strikes before Omega hits a standing V-Trigger and two snap dragon suplexes. He attempts a third but Moxley counters with the King Kong Lariat.
  • Moxley hits the lifting Paradigm Shift but is slow to the cover, allowing Omega to just kick out. Moxley attempts a tope suicida but Omega counters with a mid-air V-Trigger!
  • Omega hits a V-Trigger on Moxley into the corner before hitting the Tiger Driver ’98 for a near-fall.
  • Omega manages to stun Moxley after several V-Triggers and Omega attempts the One Winged Angel but Moxley counters. He attempts to set up the Paradigm Shift and Bulldog Choke but Omega manages to hit Croyt’s Wrath for a near-fall.
  • Moxley takes Omega to the outside and hits a Paradigm Shift into some ringside heaters and the referee brings out several doctors to check on him. Don Callis gets off commentary and tries to get the match stopped, but Moxley pushes him over.
  • Omega hits Moxley with the microphone Callis dropped when Moxley pushed him over, busting Moxley open, allowing Omega to hit 4 V-Triggers and the One Winged Angel to WIN THE AEW WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP
  • Omega and Moxley run out the arena as Tony Khan and the rest of the AEW locker room condemn his actions. Alex Marvez catches up with them as they leave and Callis says you can find out more next Tuesday… ON IMPACT!

Analysis: Wow. Fantastic match bookended by a stunning twist with Kenny Omega appearing on next week’s IMPACT! Moxley and Omega put on a brutal contest but ultimately Omega went back on their gentlemen’s agreement and used a microphone planted by Callis to become the new champion! The IMPACT twist was fantastic and seems to indicate a full-blown partnership between the two promotion which opens up SO MANY possibilities. It’s an incredibly exciting time to be a wrestling fan.

And that was AEW Dynamite Winter Is Coming!

A great show with three FANTASTIC twists in Sting’s AEW debut, Omega winning the AEW World Championship and announcing he’ll be on next week’s IMPACT! The undercard was great too, including a very impressive showing from Leyla Hirsch against Britt Baker!

The only negative is I do feel the Inner Circle dissertation angle seemed to progress very very quickly and they suddenly went from somewhat getting along to the group completely breaking down, to the point where Jericho is threatening to break it up.
