Paul Wight Announced For Rare Non-AEW Appearance

Paul Wight

Paul Wight will be making a rare appearance outside of AEW on October 19th.

Since signing with All Elite Wrestling, the former Big Show has served mostly in a broadcast role. He’s had a handful of matches on the now-defunct Dark Elevation, and at the 2021 edition of AEW All Out, he defeated QT Marshall in singles action.

Now, the star has been announced for a rare appearance outside AEW as he’s set to appear on a live broadcast of OVW television on October 19th. The announcement from Ohio Valley Wrestling reads:

“THURSDAY! For the first time in almost 20 years @AEW star PAUL WIGHT will return to Davis Arena and OVW TV! VERY FEW SEATS REMAINING! http://OVWrestling.com

Wight previously spent time in Ohio Valley Wrestling when it served as WWE’s developmental territory. In late 2000, he was sent there to improve his physical fitness and lose weight before returning to WWE television at the 2001 Royal Rumble.

Paul Wight Brought Captain Insano To AEW

While known worldwide to wrestling fans as The Big Show, one of Wight’s lesser-discussed gimmicks was that of Captain Insano in the 1998 film The Waterboy. In the film, Captain Insano is the wrestling hero of Adam Sandler’s character Bobby Boucher, and Sandler’s character is mocked as he calls into a live interview segment with his favorite wrestler.

In March of 2022, Wight confirmed that AEW had secured the rights to the character, and Captain Insano appeared alongside The Acclaimed in a music video the following November.

It would be many months before Insano made another appearance in All Elite Wrestling, but on the September 27th episode of Dynamite, he made his presence known once again alongside Adam Cole and MJF in another video segment.

Paul Wight also revealed when he plans to retire from wrestling and what he hopes to accomplish in that time.
