Paul Wight Reveals When He Will Retire: Comments On Final In-Ring Goals

Paul Wight is the latest member of the AEW roster to give an update on when he intends to have his final match.

Multiple veterans look to call time on their in-ring careers in the near future, with Bryan Danielson and Sting both publicly stating that their time left in the ring is extremely limited. First debuting for WCW back in 1995, Wight is closing in on 30 years in wrestling and is aware that he will soon be competing one final time.

The former World Champion was asked about the final stages of his wrestling career while appearing on the Battleground Podcast. Wight confirmed that he looks to end his in-ring career in 2025 at the latest but his main priority is to build up the AEW brand and younger talent as much as possible:

“I got a year and a half, two years left, before I hang it all up. Really, it’s about trying to help this younger talent and then moving on to that commentary role. Then, it’s about the younger talent. Right now, I’m still froggy and want to have fun and play a little bit. I’ve had plenty of matches, have done plenty of tours, had plenty of rivalries. Right now, it’s about doing what I can in helping the product out. There’s a time, all things come to an end, unfortunately,”

When Was Paul Wight’s Last Match?

Wight last competed on an episode of Dark: Elevation in March 2022. The ring veteran had 3 matches on the YouTube show following his debut match at All Out 2021, where he defeated QT Marshall.

Wight’s last onscreen appearance was during the pre-show of AEW All In, where The World’s Largest Athlete and Anthony Ogogo accompanied Grado to the ring to get vengeance on Jeff Jarrett.

Wight’s latest match may have been hinted at on the October 25th episode of AEW Dynamite. With Chris Jericho in need of backup to deal with the Don Callis Family, Jericho revealed that he has a friend who is bigger than Will Hobbs, hinting at a Jeri-Show reunion. Continuing to give back to the wrestling industry, Paul Wight has been announced for a rare appearance, not in AEW.

During the same interview, Paul Wight addressed an infamous Hulk Hogan match that took place in WCW.
