Concerns Over Paul Wight's AEW Return Match Following OVW Appearance

Paul Wight returns to the ring on November 15th, but previous appearances have left some questioning whether this is the right thing to do.

As seen on the November 1st episode of Dynamite, Don Callis challenged Chris Jericho and Kenny Omega to face the family in a 4 on 4 Street Fight. Needing 2 more teammates, Omega informed Callis that he would bring Kota Ibushi and Jericho informed the faction that he had recruited a giant, introducing Wight to the crowd who knocked out Kyle Fletcher with one punch.

While many are excited to see the former World Champion step into the ring once again, those who have seen Wight at previous events have expressed concerns.

Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer described the mobility issues Wight faced while appearing at an Ohio Valley Wrestling show and noted a history of knee problems. However, Meltzer also stated that the stipulation and other wrestlers in the match would be able to help with this:

I heard that when Paul Wight was back in OVW just a couple of weeks ago. And you know, I think guest ring announcer or something like that, [he] made a guest appearance. And I heard that his movement was not good. And, you know, he stood there, he had big braces on his knee. Yeah, he’s a big guy, and he’s 51 years old. And he’s had, you know, all kinds of knee problems and other problems.

But, you know, I mean, again, he probably only has to come in for, you know, I mean look who he is teaming with, he’s probably only going to have to come in for short spurts and everything, but I mean he did throw the one punch, but that was it, but he was not moving.

Wight last got physical during the pre-show of All In, helping Grado stand tall over Jeff Jarrett. According to a recent report, the original Paul Wight plans for AEW All In were much different.

Paul Wight Discusses Retirement

Now predominantly used in a backstage capacity and an established veteran, Wight is aware that he does not have many matches left in his in-ring career. During a recent interview, Paul Wight revealed when he plans to retire and what his final goals are before competing in his final match.
