Will Ospreay Debates The Logistics Of Wrestling A Bear

Will Ospreay is arguably one of the greatest wrestlers in the world today but how does he think he’d fare against a bear in the squared circle?

In the past six months alone, The Assassin has picked up pinfall victories over legendary names like Hiroshi Tanahashi, Kenny Omega, Kazuchika Okada, Chris Jericho, and Naomichi Marufuji. Now a new opponent has been proposed for Ospreay: A literal bear.

Appearing on the Battleground Podcast, the IWGP United Kingdom Champion proclaimed that he could easily suplex a bear with no issues. As for how he’d fare against one in the ring, however, Ospreay believes the type of bear is key to the conundrum.

“Yeah, I think I could do a suplex on a bear, but then I think the bear would f**k me shortly after, But what type of bear is it? If it’s a polar bear, you’re f**ked; if it’s a brown bear, you might have a chance. If it’s a grizzly bear, that’s a bad bear. A black bear is kind of an ask to do it on as well. A koala bear easily, it depends on the bear.”

The host went on to suggest it could be a panda bear which Ospreay firmly put on the “you’re f**ked” side of the debate. In fact, he believes panda bears are so deadly that he’s surprised there isn’t a movie about one similar to killer sharks or crocodiles.

“If we’re talking about panda movies or something like that, we get the killer shark all the time. We get the killer crocodile and wildlife. But a killer panda. that would be great.”

Ospreay is set to defend his IWGP United Kingdom title (as well as the former US version of the belt) against Shota Umino at NJPW Power Struggle next month. Hopefully, no bears of any kind will be involved.

The Wrestling Future Of Will Ospreay Is Currently Unclear

It has become public knowledge that Ospreay’s contract with New Japan Pro-Wrestling is set to expire in February 2024, leaving his wrestling future uncertain.

Will Ospreay recently admitted that he is open to every possible avenue regarding the future of his career. The 30-year-old is currently in negotiations with NJPW but admitted that IMPACT Wrestling is one of many promotions in the running for his future home.
