Controversial Ric Flair Line Cut From AEW Rampage Following Backlash

Ric Flair in the ring on AEW Rampage

A controversial line Ric Flair cut during a taping earlier this week was edited out of last night’s AEW Rampage broadcast.

Ric Flair landed himself in hot water earlier this week due to a particularly divisive line he used during a taping of AEW Rampage. The 74-year-old, who has previously denied allegations of sexual assault, cut a promo alongside Sting and at one point, suggested that young single women should meet him in his hotel room after the show:

“18-28 no boyfriends, no husbands, meet me at my hotel room.”

The line garnered a huge online backlash, so much so that Flair himself took to X the next day to apologise to Tony Khan. He also claimed that he would be open to walking away from AEW entirely if Khan felt Flair was embarrassing him personally and the company as a whole.

The promo in question officially aired during last night’s episode of AEW Rampage, albeit with a notable change. When Flair got on the microphone, he talked about how Sting was one of the four special people in his life and how the two of them would party all night long, with the controversial line being cut entirely from the broadcast.

Several Wrestling Legends Came To The Defence Of Ric Flair

Following his apology to Tony Khan, active stars and legends alike came out in defense of Ric Flair against the social media outcry.

Most notable among them were Steve Austin, who told The Nature Boy to “keep doing you”; Kevin Nash, who claimed Flair “wouldn’t be there if it wasn’t drawing fans”; and fellow AEW star Chris Jericho, who had some blunt advice: “Don’t listen to online a**holes champ.”
