The former Aiden English has a message for fans wanting him to reunite with Miro in AEW.
After spending three years as one-half of The Vaudevillians, Aiden English found himself back as a singles wrestler following the release of his tag team partner Simon Gotch in April 2017. English returned to a singing gimmick he had previously used in developmental before forming an unlikely team with Rusev, now known as Miro in AEW.
The pair went on to become one of the most popular acts in WWE despite being heels. However, some teams aren’t built to last, and following tension with Rusev’s long-time on-screen manager Lana, English attacked his friend in September 2018.
Due to the popularity of the partnership fans have repeatedly called for the duo to reunite, especially after WWE released English and Rusev in April 2020.
However, it seems that any reunion is some way off. During an exclusive interview with Nick Hausman for Inside The Ropes, English — real name Matt Rehwoldt — discussed his time with WWE and his impending return to the ring with Gotch.
When asked about working with Miro and perhaps joining forces with the AEW star, Rehwoldt revealed he hasn’t actually spoken to Miro for a long time. The former NXT Tag Team Champion added that even if he did work with Miro again it would need to be different to Rusev Day.
“I’ll be honest, I have not spoken with him in quite some time, and he kind of keeps to himself a lot these days. But again, I am not opposed to it.
I did make a semi-popular YouTube video, at the time I was like, ‘Rusev Day will never happen again.’ And I still to this day do kind of agree with that to a point. I don’t think it would be a good idea to take that and like — people say like, ‘Oh, do Miro Day in AEW,’ and I’m like, ‘You think that’s a good idea?’
I still creatively — I don’t think it’s a good idea. Working with Miro again in some way, shape, or form make it something evolved and new? Hell yeah. Why not? I think the guy’s incredibly talented. I do think there’s some good chemistry with us. But I’m always not a huge fan, especially in that regard of taking it from one to the other. I think it will feel watered down.”
What Is Miro Doing Now?
After leaving WWE, Miro headed to AEW and made an immediate splash before going on to win the TNT Championship. However, by late 2021 the star was forced to take time off due to injury and didn’t return to the ring until June of the following year.
The Bulgarian star only wrestled four times in 2022 before dropping from view following All Out.
Miro made his most recent return to AEW on the debut episode of Collision on June 17th, 2023. Since then, he’s been a semi-regular presence on the show alongside the likes of CM Punk, Andrade El Idolo, FTR, Jay White, and Juice Robinson.
