WWE Had Big Plans For “McRiddle” Tag Team Between Drew McIntyre And Matt Riddle

Drew McIntyre & Matt Riddle

WWE had big plans for Matt Riddle before he was released in September.

After returning to action following WrestleMania 39, Riddle feuded with The Miz, continued his feud with The Bloodline, and then attempted to win the Intercontinental Title from Gunther.

At Money In The Bank, Riddle was felled by the dominant Austrian and then attacked by Imperium, but Drew McIntyre — who was making his own return — came to his aid.

During the following weeks, Riddle and McIntyre began teaming together taking on the Viking Raiders and the New Day. However, following an incident at JFK airport, Riddle was removed from television and later released.

At the time of his exit, it was unclear whether the partnership would be a permanent union, or a short-term hook-up before McIntyre moved on to other things. Interestingly, it’s been reported that it was going to be the former.

Posting on social media, Wrestle Votes reported that there were “significant plans” for the duo under the name “McRiddle.”

Prior to his departure from the company, I’m told there were significant plans for a Matt Riddle / Drew McIntyre tag team. So much so, various merchandise items were designed with the team name……. “McRiddle.”

This is not a joke.

Multiple Companies Interested In Matt Riddle

Following his release, it’s been reported that there’s a great deal of interest in Matt Riddle from both MMA and wrestling companies.

“Since the word last week of his being let go, there has been interest by a number of companies in both pro wrestling and MMA. Most pro wrestling companies of any size immediately expressed interest, and in MMA, both PFL and Bare Knuckle Fighting had expressed interest due to his name value from WWE and the fact he was a decent MMA fighter.”

Riddle last wrestled on September 4th when he teamed with McIntyre on Raw.
