Booker T Not Angry About Infamous WWE Match Finish

Booker T spoke in an interview about how he doesn’t hold any resentment about his loss at WrestleMania 19 against Triple H.

The lead-up to the Triple H versus Booker T match at WrestleMania 19 was marred by controversy, with WWE facing heavy criticism for a storyline that contained racial undertones. Triple H’s villainous character made racially motivated comments towards Booker, leading to a heated showdown.

The controversy peaked during the March 3rd episode of Raw in 2003, when Triple H belittled Booker, claiming that someone like him did not deserve to be a World Champion. The racially charged comments, coupled with Triple H’s assertion that Booker should focus on entertaining rather than aspiring to the top, ignited a firestorm of criticism.

Many fans found the storyline distasteful and were eager to see Booker get his long-awaited revenge at WrestleMania 19. In a recent appearance on The Kurt Angle Show, Booker T shared his perspective on the match and his loss. He revealed that despite the intense build-up and the disappointment of not winning, he harbours no resentment towards WWE.

Booker acknowledged the significance of the match and its real intensity, with the contrasting backgrounds of the two wrestlers – Triple H as a privileged “silver spoon” and Booker T as someone who had overcome adversity, including a prison stint. Booker emphasised that while he didn’t come out on top that night, the match itself was a standout moment in his career. He urged fans to revisit the bout, citing its intensity and the effort both wrestlers put into it.

I didn’t win that night, but I always tell people, ‘Go back and watch that match.’ It was an awesome match. We went out there and let it all hang out, and Hunter took everything that night! I never cared about wins and losses. I always thought about the moment. A lot of people wish I won that match, and a lot of people were so disappointed that night, but I’ve never lost one day of sleep because [of] that check … the biggest check I’ve made for one night. If anybody’s complaining, put me in that every year. I’d do the same thing!
