Mercedes Mone Still Injured, Missed Expected AEW Debut

Mercedes Mone

Mercedes Mone’s injury prevented her from debuting with AEW back in July.

The former Sasha Banks is one of the most in-demand wrestlers in the world, but she’s been unable to wrestle since May. At NJPW STRONG Resurgence Mone suffered a broken ankle in a match with Willow Nightingale, but managed to finish the contest as planned.

The injury hasn’t stopped Mone from being linked with AEW — something that began even before she left WWE in 2022. To add further fuel to the fire, Mone was in attendance for AEW All In at Wembley Stadium and was repeatedly shown on the big screen. During the show, it was reported Mercedes Mone has held talks with the promotion.

It’s now been reported by Mike Johnson of PWInsider that Mone is still wearing a protective boot, something deliberately hidden when she was shown in the crowd at Wembley. This is also the reason she wasn’t physically involved in an angle or appeared in the ring.

Johnson notes that the expectation is that when she’s cleared she’ll be heading to AEW. Furthermore, she likely would have already made her debut at Blood and Guts at the TD Garden in her hometown of Boston in July had she not been injured.

What Did Tony Khan Say About Mercedes Mone?

Speaking at the post-All In media scrum, Tony Khan was asked about Mone being shown in the stands and said he was excited to have her there.

“It was great to have her here. She last competed for New Japan Pro-Wrestling, so I thought it would be excellent to have one of the top international stars in all of pro wrestling here.”

The AEW boss has previously said he’d be open to working with the former WWE star in the future.
