Every Dave Meltzer 5 Star Match From AEW

Dave Meltzer AEW Nick Jackson Rey Fenix Destroyer

Dave Meltzer and his star ratings have been the topic of heated debate in wrestling for decades.

With the first five-star match happening in 1982, over 200 more have attained that status or achieved an additional snowflake (or two). With All Elite Wrestling joining the wrestling world in 2019, we have a look at all the AEW matches to gain five stars or more… so far!

Cody vs. Dustin Rhodes, AEW Double Or Nothing 2019 – 5 Stars

Cody Dustin Rhodes

The first match in All Elite Wrestling history to receive the hallowed five stars from Dave Meltzer was an absolute bloodbath between the Rhodes brothers. On AEW’s first night Cody and Dustin Rhodes undoubtedly stole the show as Dustin put on a career-defining show.

In the run-up to the match, Cody told the story of trying to end his older brother’s era of wrestling. Complaining that he and his peers had to live up to the perceived impossible standards set by those in the ‘Attitude Era.’

Before the match even took place, Cody ensured headlines were made as the Prince of Pro-Wrestling took a sledgehammer to The King Of King’s throne. As for the match itself, Brandi Rhodes made her presence felt at ringside hitting Dustin with a bottle of water and then a spear before being ejected by the legendary man in the middle, Earl Hebner.

The packed crowd in Las Vegas grew louder and more vociferous as the match went on with the brothers taking their turn to inflict pain on each other. In the end, with both men covered in Dustin’s blood, a third Cross Rhodes was enough to give Cody the victory.

After the match, in one of the most emotional promos ever, Cody told his opponent he didn’t need a partner or a friend, but he did need his older brother. The brothers then embraced with this moment setting up their tag team bout with The Young Bucks at Fight For The Fallen.

Lucha Brothers vs. The Young Bucks, AEW All Out 2021 – 5.25 Stars

Nick Jackson Penta

The first AEW contest to break the Dave Meltzer five-star scale was a tag team war from the inaugural All Out pay-per-view in September 2019. One year on from the spiritual precursor to AEW, All In, The Young Bucks found themselves sharing the ring with the Lucha Brothers, Penta El Zero M and Rey Fenix. This bout was no ordinary match as the pairs of brothers faced off in an Escalera De La Muerte match for the AAA Tag Team Championship.

The match itself was all action for nearly half an hour as two of the best tag teams on the planet risked everything. Highlights included Penta hitting an incredible Destroyer on Matt Jackson off the top of a ladder through a table in the ring.

Not to be outdone the younger brothers Nick and Rey leaped off ladders in stereo driving both Matt and Penta through tables. The scariest moment came when Nick was pushed off a ladder by Penta sending Jackson all the way to the floor. On his way down his foot caught the top rope meaning he plunged headfirst through one of the two tables at ringside.

Ultimately the Lucha Brothers retained their titles, going on to have the longest reign as AAA Tag Team Champions in history.

Kenny Omega and Hangman Page vs. The Young Bucks – AEW Revolution 2020 – 6 Stars

The Young Bucks Omega Hangman

So far the highest-rated AEW match on the Dave Meltzer scale, and the highest-rated tag team match of all time in any promotion by some distance.

Omega and Page had come together to form an unlikely tag team despite both being members of The Elite. Although as time wore on Page’s relationship with the group and in particular The Young Bucks grew more fractious by the week.

At Revolution in early 2020, the last AEW pay-per-view pre-pandemic era, a disillusioned Page joined forces with Omega to face The Bucks in a thirty-minute barnstormer of a match. In what was Omega and Page’s third title defence they took the Jackson brothers to the absolute limit.

As the advantage flew back and forward, Omega and Page looked every bit the polished tag team as they hit combination moves and set each other up for their trademark offence.

With The Bucks showing flashes of their arrogant Bullet Club selves, they took control until Page was able to powerbomb Nick through a table. The crowd in Chicago became more unglued with each near fall before Hangman Page finished the match with a cathartic Buckshot Lariat. The best tag team match of all time according to Dave Meltzer.

Best Friends vs. Santana and Ortiz, AEW Dynamite September 16th 2020 – 5 Stars

Parking Lot Fight Graphic

Now for something completely different. The only AEW 5 star match to take place entirely out of the confines of the squared circle. It might be the only 5 star match anywhere to have taken place entirely out of the confines of the squared circle.

The two teams met in the main event of Dynamite in what was the finest example of a parking lot fight that has ever been. Santana and Ortiz entered with what has become their big match trademark Dead Presidents-inspired facepaint. In many ways, this fight was perfect for the pandemic era as AEW were still running shows with no crowd in attendance.

Highlights included Trent being powerbombed on the top of a car by Ortiz and then the Inner Circle members slamming him through a windshield. The end of the fight saw Orange Cassidy emerge from the trunk of a car nailing Santana with a chain-assisted Orange Punch.

Best Friends won the match when Trent finished Ortiz by delivering a Crunchie through a board on the back of a pick-up truck. And there’s not any other 5 star matches that can say that.

The Young Bucks vs. FTR, AEW Full Gear 2020 – 5.25 Stars

The Young Bucks FTR

Fans of The Young Bucks YouTube series, Being The Elite, will know that this match was on the cards for years. It all began with FTR being an unkind acronym directed towards the team then known as The Revival.

For many fans, a match between these two teams was a dream that would harken back to the glory days of tag team wrestling where The Rock ‘N’ Roll Express and The Midnight Express sold out arenas across the United States.

The problem was, FTR was part of WWE while The Bucks began building AEW. That problem was solved in May 2020 when the newly christened Dax Harwood and Cash Wheeler drove their truck right onto AEW Dynamite.

For weeks, the teams had a somewhat uneasy alliance. The Bucks and FTR even teamed up at Fyter Fest 2020 to defeat the Butcher, The Blade, and the Lucha Brothers. However that all changed in August 2020 on what was supposed to be Tag Team Appreciation Night. With Tully Blanchard, Arn Anderson, and The Rock ‘N’ Roll Express present, FTR attacked Ricky Morton and cemented their alliance with Blanchard.

Success followed less than a month later when FTR unseated Hangman Page and Kenny Omega as AEW Tag Team Champions. All of this was leading to their inevitable showdown with the Jackson brothers, and at Full Gear, the fans finally got their wish.

The old adage ‘styles make fights’ had never been more apt with both teams trying to wrestle their style. FTR successfully slowed The Bucks and their frenetic style down for much of the match. With Harwood and Wheeler focussing their attention on Matt Jackson’s already injured ankle. In the end, however, FTR’s hubris was their undoing.

Straying away from their ‘no flips, just fists’ mantra, Cash Wheeler attempted a springboard 450 splash but missed Matt. The elder Jackson brother then dropped him with a superkick with the injured ankle for the win and the titles.

Kenny Omega vs. Rey Fenix, AEW New Year’s Smash Night 1, January 6th 2021 – 5 Stars

Kenny Omega Rey Fenix

In many ways, Rey Fenix has been AEW’s stand-out competitor since the company began in early 2019. He received his first AEW Championship match on the first AEW Dynamite of 2021. The luchador had a tough test against a champion with a new attitude but who is no stranger to a 5 [or even 7] star match, Kenny Omega.

Since Omega won the championship in December 2020 and forming an alliance with long-time friend Don Callis, Omega had reverted the villainous ‘Cleaner’ persona he first exhibited after he joined Bullet Club in NJPW.

Coming one week after the hugely emotional Celebration of Life for the late Brodie Lee, Omega, and Fenix put wrestling front and centre once again in what was a difficult time for the company.

Omega made his size and strength advantage count as he tried to ground the high flyer. But despite Omega’s best efforts, Rey Fenix could not be subdued as he threw his body at Omega like a weapon. Fenix survived onslaught after onslaught from Omega, even catching the champ with an incredible superkick for a near fall.

In the end, Omega finished the fight in the same way he’s finished so many others, putting Fenix away with the One-Winged Angel.

The Young Bucks vs. Death Triangle, AEW Dynamite April 14th 2021 – 5 Stars

Young Bucks Death Triangle

The Young Bucks lead the way in five star [or above] matches in AEW with six, but Rey Fenix is not too far behind. And with the luchador teaming with Death Triangle partner Pac, another classic was on the cards for this AEW Tag Team Title match.

The Bucks were now back to their arrogant best after reforming The Elite with Kenny Omega, The Good Brothers, and Don Callis. Death Triangle earned their title shot by winning the Casino Tag Team Royale at Revolution in March. The addition of Pac in the place of Penta El Zero M gave a new twist on what had become a classic formula between The Bucks and the Lucha Brothers.

The match was jam-packed with high flying action as you’d expect. Fenix nearly won the titles following a frog splash and then Pac nearly won the match with a Black Arrow. However, Death Triangle was undone in the end like so many teams before them as they were guests of honour at a superkick party.

The Young Bucks vs. Lucha Brothers, AEW All Out 2021 – 5.75 Stars

Penta El Zero M AEW

Death Triangle may have come up short in April but when Fenix teamed with his brother Penta El Zero M at All Out when they faced The Young Bucks for the AEW Tag Team Championship, it was a different story entirely.

The Bucks and The Lucha Brothers have engaged in some classic bouts during their careers but a year after their last 5 and a quarter star masterpiece, the two teams up the stakes and achieved the second-highest-rated match in AEW history when they fought inside a steel cage.

The two teams pulled out all the stops in one of the greatest cage matches of all time with The Bucks even using wrestling boots adorned with thumbtacks to try and finish off their rivals. The brutal bout was ended with a piledriver onto Nick Jackson which also brought about the end of The Young Bucks’ 302-day reign as AEW Tag Team Champions. The era of Zero Miedo had well and truly arrived in AEW.

Bryan Danielson vs. Kenny Omega, AEW Grand Slam 2021 – 5 Stars

Kenny Omega Bryan Danielson AEW

The biggest show in AEW history was kicked off with perhaps the biggest match in AEW history as AEW World Champion Kenny Omega took on Bryan Danielson in a dream match that many thought they’d never see.

At All Out, just weeks before AEW Grand Slam, Bryan Danielson changed wrestling forever when he debuted for AEW, appearing at the very end of the pay-per-view to confront Kenny Omega and The Elite.

Not skipping the queue for a title shot, Bryan Danielson challenged Kenny Omega to a non-title bout simply to find out who The Best Bout Machine really is. Omega was hesitant to accept but eventually did so with New York City the host and 20,000 plus AEW fans the witnesses for one of the finest half hours in wrestling history.

The bout kicked off proceedings in Arthur Ashe Stadium, a venue more suited for serves and volleys rather than knee strikes and chops. But the latter was on offer in abundance in the mat classic between two stars that have defined their generations.

Perhaps fittingly, the bout ended in a time limit draw, with the question of the better wrestler still unanswered.

The Superkliq vs. Jurassic Express & Christian Cage, AEW Full Gear 2021 – 5 Stars

Superkliq AEW

From a mat classic to anything but.

Bryan Danielson was not the only surprise at All Out. Minutes before The American Dragon was unleashed on AEW, Adam Cole shocked the system and reunited with The Elite following his WWE departure. Cole’s first act in an AEW ring was to superkick Jungle Boy, and given the events of Full Gear, he perhaps wishes he hadn’t bothered.

The alliance between Jungle Boy, Luchasaurus, and Christian Cage has only been bolstered in recent weeks due to their battles with The Elite. With so many men involved and so many weapons close to hand, the six-man tag team match for Full Gear was made Falls Count Anywhere.

A wild brawl ensued with the two teams fighting all around the stage area and around the ring. Thumbtacks and tables were both used but in the end, it was the chair that proved pivotal.

Christian Cage set Matt Jackson up for the move he made famous – the one man con-chair-to on the stage. However before Cage could strike the final blow, he metaphorically handed over the torch when he literally handed over the chair to Jungle Boy who asked to strike the final blow, winning the riotous melee for his team.

Kenny Omega vs. Hangman Adam Page, AEW Full Gear 2021 – 5.5 Stars

Kenny Omega Hangman Adam Page AEW

Are you ready for some Cowboy Sh*t?

The match years in the making and the crowning glory of Hangman Adam Page is the highest-rated singles match in AEW history at five and a half stars.

The story between Page and Omega stretches back all the way to 2016 when Adam Page first joined Bullet Club in New Japan Pro Wrestling. There he stood in the shadows of the rest of The Elite as the celebrated All In show and then the formation of AEW began to take shape.

Hangman had the chance to break out on his own and claim his place in history as inaugural AEW World Champion when he met Chris Jericho at the first All Out in 2019. Page’s destiny went unfulfilled that night and sent the cowboy on a long and winding road to Full Gear 2021.

Hangman Adam Page has not gone without success in AEW. Page and Omega made a great team as has already been documented on this list and their run as AEW Tag Team Champions was not inconsiderable. As the story of the team unravelled, it appeared Omega had his sights on bigger things while Page just unravelled.

A crisis of confidence set in for Page after he lost to Kenny Omega at Full Gear in the final of the AEW World Title Eliminator Tournament. That win set Omega off to become AEW World Champion and a complete change of attitude while the defeat just set Page off to the bar.

Hangman found an unlikely gang of supporters and friends in The Dark Order. They attempted to raise Page’s spirits but Hangman seemed to walk away from them after losing a massive tag team bout that would have seen Hangman face Omega at All Out for the title.

After some time away – in reality, to spend with his newborn child – Page returned on the 6th of October edition of AEW Dynamite where he won a Casino Ladder Match to finally claim his title shot from Omega.

The match itself saw the best of both combatants as they traded moves and blows that both men know so well. In a drama-filled conclusion, The Young Bucks limped out after their own efforts in the evening to stand once more in Omega’s corner like so many times before.

In the end, the Jackson brothers could only nod with acceptance that Hangman’s time had come as he floored Omega with two Buckshot Lariats to finally become AEW World Champion.

Hangman Adam Page vs. Bryan Danielson, AEW Winter Is Coming 2021 – 5 Stars

Bryan Danielson Hangman Adam Page AEW

Adam Page might go down as the only man to have had two five-star matches in a row as hot off his title win, his defence against The American Dragon achieved the full five stars as well.

The build to the bout at AEW Winter Is Coming saw Danielson slip into a heel role, that looked very familiar to fans who followed his run as ‘The New Daniel Bryan’ in WWE following his return from retirement. In that instance, it was winning the WWE Title that triggered a change in Danielson and his pursuit of the top prize in AEW seemed to do the same.

Danielson launched a vicious hunt on Page’s friends in The Dark Order as he promised to “kick the heads in” of as many members of the group as possible. This brought Danielson wins over Evil Uno, Colt Cabana, Alan Angels, and John Silver as Page seemed unable to stop his challenger from tearing through the group.

At AEW Winter Is Coming, perhaps to the surprise of those watching, Page and Danielson kicked off the show with the first AEW World Title match on free television since Kenny Omega defended his championship against Jungle Boy on Dynamite in June.

However, it soon became apparent that fans of both men were in for a treat and that the match might well go on for some time. And that’s exactly what happened, Danielson battered and bloodied the champion while Page refused to stay down time after time. Eventually, time was the victor as the sixty-minute limit expired just after Page had dropped Danielson with a Buckshot Lariat.

Cody Rhodes vs. Sammy Guevara, AEW Beach Break 2022 – 5 Stars

Cody Rhodes Sammy Guevara TNT Title

Cody Rhodes became TNT Champion for the third time in his career when he defeated Sammy Guevara for the title at AEW Rampage Holiday Bash which aired on Christmas night. Rhodes made one successful defence of the title against Ethan Page before a planned rematch with Guevara at Battle Of The Belts was put on hold due to COVID.

Instead, The Spanish God took on Dustin Rhodes in a bout that crowned Guevara as the Interim TNT Champion as he waited for the younger Rhodes brother to return to action.

That didn’t take long and The American Nightmare wasted no time in challenging Sammy Guevara to a Ladder Match where both titles would be suspended high above the ring – just as Shawn Michaels and Razor Ramon had done at WrestleMania X.

Beach Break in Cleveland provided the setting for the men to meet and the fans in attendance were treated to an absolute barn burner of a match. Guevara was thrown from pillar to post before being suplexed by Rhodes from the top of a ladder with both men crashing to the ring below.

Sammy would steal the highlight of the night from Rhodes as he leaped from top rope to ladder before leaping to another ladder to grab Rhodes in a cutter in one fluid motion. Both men lay prone on the mat as the Cleveland crowd rocked the arena.

In the end, both men battled back with Cody Rhodes surviving a Swanton Bomb from Sammy while he lay across a ladder, and both men scaled the rungs with neither man giving an inch. A fistfight ensued atop the ladder in the ring before Guevara grabbed hold of one of the TNT Title belts and smashed into Rhodes’ face, sending The American Nightmare sailing to the canvas.

As Guevara unhooked both title belts, he was declared the Undisputed TNT Champion in what is the first five-star match of his career – surely the first of many for a man who calls himself ‘The Best Ever.’

Chris Jericho, Daniel Garcia, Jake Hager, Angelo Parker & Matt Menard vs. Bryan Danielson, Jon Moxley, Eddie Kingston, Santana & Ortiz, AEW Double or Nothing – 5 Stars

Anarchy in the Arena 2022

Anarchy in the Arena was utter mayhem.

It was chaotic, full of insane spots and almost impossible to follow. Ladders, chairs, fire extinguishers; you name it, every conceivable object that could be used as a weapon was by all participants as they battered each other senseless in this Anything Goes arena-wide brawl.

Anarchy in the Arena was never dull.

Jericho and Hager choked out Danielson to earn the victory for the Jericho Appreciation Society.

The Young Bucks vs. Penta & Rey Fenix, AEW Rampage – 5 Stars

Lucha Brothers vs The Young Bucks

The June 3, Rampage hailed from LA, in The Young Bucks’ backyard.

The Bucks clashed with Penta and Fenix in a breathless bout that packed an incredible amount of action into just 14 minutes.

At times, it felt like you were watching a video game rather than live action but it must be said, the California crowd lapped up every second.

The finish came after a succession of superkicks and a BTE trigger crushed Penta and Fenix and earned the Bucks the hometown win.

Will Ospreay & Aussie Open vs. Penta, Pac & Rey Fenix, AEW Dynamite – 5 Stars

Will Ospreay and Aussie Open

Will Ospreay and Aussie Open’s bout with Penta, Pac and Rey Fenix was a jaw dropping display of outstanding aerials and athletic counters, but as a match it lacked basic structure.

There was little logic to the transitions and a startling little amount of selling. However, that being said the Cleveland crowd were invested throughout the match-up.

Despite its issues, the action was thrilling and was terrific value, given it aired on free television.

Death Triangle vs. Kenny Omega & The Young Bucks, AEW Dynamite (January 11, 2023) – 5 Stars

Death Triangle vs The Elite

The final of the best-of-seven series for the World Trios Title had plenty in common with its six predecessors. It was non-stop action all the way with jaw dropping aerials and high spots.

This encounter used the Tables, Ladders and Chairs gimmick and the two teams made full use of the furniture as they beat each other silly in a brutal display of carnage. Omega claimed the belts after smashing Penta with a One Winger Angel.

It was a fitting conclusion to the series and The Elite’s victory made sense as AEW attempted to give the fledgling Trios title some additional credibility.

Adam Page vs. Jon Moxley, AEW Revolution (March 5, 2023) – 5 Stars

Adam Page vs Jon Moxley

The tense feud between former AEW World Champions, Adam Page and Jon Moxley peaked in a blood-soaked Texas Death Match at AEW’s inaugural pay-per-view of 2023, Revolution.

It was a brutally, sometimes, uncomfortably violent garbage match, which would have made Nick Gage wince.

The story of the bout centred around the use of barbed wire with both wrestlers utilising it to permanently disfigure one another. The carnage ended when ‘Hangman’ nailed Moxley with a brick, hit him with a Buckshot Lariat, and then used the chain to hang him over the rope for the submission.

Bloody, gruesome and effective. The match reheated Page after a lacklustre conclusion to 2022.

MJF vs. Brian Danielson, AEW Revolution (March 5, 2023) – 5.75 Stars

MJF vs Danielson

Revolution also played host to another five (and three-quarter) star match-up. Meltzer awarded that match rating to the show’s headliner as Bryan Danielson challenged AEW World Champion, MJF in a 60-minute Ironman contest.

The bout actually lasted 65 minutes as the match went to overtime with the score tied at 3-3 when the time limit expired. MJF who had received oxygen at the conclusion of the 60 minutes knocked Danielson silly with the oxygen tank and slapped on a LeBell Lock to earn a tainted submission win.

It was a perfectly crafted match, with everything each wrestler did, logical in the context of the bout. It mixed in technical wrestling with brawling and told a strong story.

An absolute classic with a shockingly screwy ending, which perfectly fit MJF’s character.

El Hijo Del Vikingo vs. Kenny Omega, AEW Dynamite (March 22, 2023) – 5 Stars

Omega vs Vikingo

AEW promoted what they called a “dream match” pitting Kenny Omega against AAA’s El Hijo Del Vikingo.

While it’s true, that AAA had been attempting to book these two in a match for years, whether it’s a contest that AEW fans would have been clamouring for is debatable.

Nevertheless on the night, the pair lived up to their lofty billing with a terrific spectacle of death-defying athleticism. Vikingo wowed the American crowd with his jaw-dropping, innovative offence.

After 17 hard-fought minutes, Omega smashed Vikingo with a One Winged Angel.

One wonders if AEW regarded this bout as a “dream match” why they didn’t present it on pay-per-view. However, it does seem churlish to complain that a match of this quality was delivered on free television.

Adam Page, Kenny Omega & The Young Bucks vs. Bryan Danielson, Claudio Castagnoli, Jon Moxley & Wheeler Yuta, AEW Double or Nothing (May 28, 2023) – 5 Stars

Matt Jackson exploding Superkick

Anarchy in the Arena. Four words which either deliver unadulterated excitement or withering apathy, depending on your persuasion.

The 2023 edition took place at Double or Nothing once more and delivered the expected lashings of claret which has become synoymous with the gimmick.

The Blackpool Combat Club bettered The Elite after 27-minutes of insane action, which the camera failed to pick up on many occasions.

There was too much going on and the bout at times was impossible to follow. However, one cannot fault the effort involved from both teams who constructed something which thrilled spectators throughout.

Kenny Omega vs. Will Ospreay, AEW Dynamite (June 25, 2023) – 6 Stars

Omega vs Ospreay

Kenny Omega and Will Ospreay tore the house down at AEW’s second annual Forbidden Door event. The pair bettered their Wrestle Kingdom encounter with another terrific bout that had the Canadian fans on their feet.

The high-flying rivals battered each other senseless for an epic 40 minutes in a bout packed full of innovative, high-impact moves.

Both men bled in the best match on the card and possibly the greatest match of the year to date. The story of the match was that both participants would fight until they had nothing left in the tank. At the conclusion of the contest, you really felt as if they had left everything they had out in the ring.

Ospreay earned the win after nailing Omega with a Hidden Blade into a Stormbreaker.

One for the highlight reels no doubt. Epic, classic encounter that left fans salivating for more between these two.

FTR vs. Bullet Club Gold, AEW Collision (July 15, 2023) – 5.25 Stars

FTR vs Bullet Club Gold

AEW Collision earned it’s first five star rating from Meltzer after a near one hour war, pitting AEW Tag Team Champions, FTR against Bullet Club Gold in a two out of three falls contest.

The match started at a glacial pace but picked up sharply from the second fall onwards and the final stretch was packed full of huge moves and epic drama. The bout was a stature enhancer for Jay White and Juice Robinson, who had struggled to gain acceptance from the AEW faithful, following their successful New Japan stint.

The contest was completely different from the spot fest type tag team bouts AEW usually presents. Indeed, its drama came from not from high spots, but the selling from both teams, demonstrated the high stakes of the match-up perfectly.

The finish saw an exhausted Robinson submit to a Dax Harwood Sharpshooter.

An excellent, old school tag team encounter, which may be one of the best matches ever held on free television.

Bryan Danielson vs Ricky Starks, AEW All Out (September 3, 2023) – 5 Stars

Bryan Danielson Ricky StarksBryan Danielson was a late substitute for the future endeavoured CM Punk, but marked his return in style in a super stiff, hard hitting scrap with Ricky Starks.

Their strap match was brutal as both men battered each other senseless with the strap in a tough 16-minute encounter.

The finish came when Danielson used the strap to choke out Starks with a Lebell Lock. Fabulous encounter. Although Starks lost, the fact he passed out rather than submitted was a stature enhancer for him.

Konosuke Takeshita vs Kenny Omega, AEW All Out (September 3, 2023) – 5 Stars

AEW All Out 2023 - Kenny Omega vs. Konosuke Takeshita

The long running feud between Takeshita and Kenny Omega delivered in the ring in their first singles match in AEW.

Takeshita turned heel on Omega and aligned himself with Omega’s longtime associate, Don Callis, which set up this top-drawer encounter.

After an intense back and forth match-up packed full of high octane moves, Takeshita earned the spotlessly clean pin with a wheelbarrow german suplex and a running knee, before taking of his kneepad and hitting another running knee for the clean pin. Terrific match-up.

Bryan Danielson vs Zack Sabre Jr., AEW (October 1, 2023) – 5.5 Stars

Bryan Danielson hits running knee on Zack Sabre Jr.

AEW presented a highly anticipated match-up between Bryan Danielson and Zack Sabre Jr. in one of the featured bouts at the heavily hyped, WrestleDream event.

The pair traded typically stiff slaps and kicks and in a departure from the norm, repeatedly attempted submissions as well as pinfalls, which created a chaotic and thrilling atmosphere.

After exchanging submission attempts, Danielson utilised used a back suplex and
busaiku knee for a near fall. He then hit a second busaiku knee and earned the clean pinfall. Terrific encounter and one which which will have fans salivating for a rematch.

Swerve Strickland vs Adam Page, AEW (November 18, 2023) – 5 Stars

Swerve Strickland after winning the Texas Death Match at AEW Full Gear

The heated feud between Swerve Strickland and Adam Page culminated in an insanely bloody Texas Death Match.

The bout peaked around five minutes before it actually ended after 30 minutes, but it certainly delivered in the violent stakes.

The pair completely battered each other senseless in one of the most brutal wrestling matches you could ever wish to see in a mainstream wrestling promotion.

Swerve finally ended the madness when he choked out Page with a chain to earn the victory.
