AJ Styles Match On SmackDown Almost Given Stipulation

AJ Styles celebrates with The O.C.

A recent match between AJ Styles and Karrion Kross almost came with some added extras.

On the August 11th episode of SmackDown, the rivalry between the pair continued, with Styles looking to pick up another win and move back into title contention. Unsurprisingly, the supposed singles match didn’t pass off without incident.

With Styles seemingly on the brink of victory, Scarlett placed Kross’ foot on the rope to break a pin. Naturally, this upset Michin who tried to attack Scarlett but ended up getting taken out. As Styles got back on top, Scarlett was involved again, getting up on the apron. However, this time, Michin got the better of her rival and launched her over the announce desk.

This paved the way for Styles to finally hit the Styles clash and score the win.

What Was Planned For AJ Styles And Karrion Kross?

Following SmackDown, Mike Johnson of PWInsider reported that in the week leading up to the show WWE considered making the match No Disqualification. However, the idea was dropped and a regular singles match took place.

Elsewhere on the show, Rey Mysterio won the United States Title for a third time. Austin Theory had spent the majority of the show trying to get out of defending his title against Santos Escobar, attacking his challenger at every turn, but after jumping the star while he made his entrance, Adam Pearce announced Theory would face Mysterio instead.

The veteran went on to dispatch Theory in under three minutes.

After another rollercoaster of a main event segment, Jey Uso said he was done with WWE after taking out Roman Reigns, Solo Sikoa, and his brother Jimmy.

Recently AJ Styles dispelled rumours that he could continue to wrestle into his 60s.
