Trick Williams, a rising star in WWE NXT, has denied imitating WWE Hall of Famer Booker T.
While Booker T has been a vocal supporter of Williams and has provided him with valuable advice and opportunities, In an interview with Under The Ring, Williams emphasises that he wants to establish his own identity as a performer.
Williams acknowledges that fans have drawn comparisons between him and Booker T due to their association and Williams hearing it all the time. However, he views these comparisons as a great compliment, considering Booker T’s greatness. Williams maintains a close relationship with Booker T, checking in with him weekly and seeking his guidance on various aspects of the wrestling business.
I talk to Booker all the time, we check in weekly. I might watch some film with him or just pick his brain or just talk business and he’s been a guy who’s been very helpful to me and my career.
Booker T’s mentorship extends beyond just advice at NXT tapings. He has also invited Williams to perform at his promotion, Reality Of Wrestling, providing him with additional opportunities to grow and learn as a performer. However, Williams makes it clear that Booker T wants him to carve his path and not rely on Booker T’s name for success.
He’s adamant on me doing it myself though. He’s like, ‘Hey, don’t do it like I did it, I don’t want you to come up off my name. Go out there and get it yourself.’ That’s the way I want it,
Williams expresses gratitude for Booker T’s mentorship but emphasises that he wants to be recognised as Trick Williams and not be seen as a copy or reminder of Booker T.
