Tony Khan Addresses The Status Of ROH Tag Titles Following Adam Cole Injury

Tony Khan has hinted that action may need to be taken with the ROH Tag Team Championships.

As the bromance developed between MJF and Adam Cole on AEW programming, Cole stated to his new best friend that he wanted to win the one championship that alluded him in Ring of Honor; the Tag Team Championships. MJF agreed to pull double duty at All In as the brochachos challenged Aussie Open for the titles on the pre-show. Following a Kangaroo Kick and the double clothesline, Cole and MJF won the titles to end the pre-show on a feel-good moment.

The dream would turn into a nightmare just a few weeks later as Adam Cole suffered an ankle injury at Grand Slam. Despite hinting that the titles had to be relinquished, MJF vowed to do whatever it took to remain champion until Cole was cleared to compete, including defending the titles by himself in a handicap match and reluctantly teaming with Samoa Joe. With Cole’s return date still uncertain, Tony Khan may have to take alternative action.

Speaking on the ROH Final Battle media call, Khan was asked if there had been consideration of vacating the championships due to Cole recovering from injury and MJF now seemingly suffering from multiple injuries. Khan stated that although the championships mean a lot to Cole and MJF, it is something that is being closely monitored:

“That’s definitely something to look at at some point. It’s something MJF said was important to him and Cole, was to try and maintain the belts to when Cole gets back. Obviously, it’s been a long road to recovery from a bad injury, but we’re all excited about having Adam Cole back in AEW as soon as he can come back. They are a great tag team for any company and certainly have been a huge part of AEW this year and a big success for us. With Adam Cole and MJF being champions, I think certainly that is something to consider,”

Tony Khan Praises Current Era Of Ring Of Honor

Although Khan has since revived the brand and hopes to elevate it once more, many believe the golden era of ROH was when stars such as Samoa Joe, Tyler Black [Seth Rollins] and Bryan Danielson reigned as champions. While he is appreciative of the previous eras, Tony Khan believes that some of the best events in ROH history are happening in the present day.
