Roman Reigns Pinned In Remarkable WWE Money In The Bank Defeat

Roman Reigns at Night of Champions on WWE SmackDown

As The Bloodline implodes around him, Roman Reigns has been pinned for the first time since December 2019.

Heading into WWE Money In The Bank, Roman Reigns hadn’t lost via pin-fall since being toppled by Baron Corbin at TLC on December 15th, 2019. However, after a remarkable comeback involving multiple Superkicks a top rope splash, and a sneaky low blow, Jey Uso became the first man to pin Reigns’ shoulders to the mat since Baron Corbin.

Following Jimmy Uso finally turning his back on Reigns at Clash of Champions, his brother Jey followed suit on SmackDown and The Bloodline was teetering. This devastating development set up a match between The Usos and Reigns and Solo Sikoa at Money In The Bank. Unsurprisingly, the match wasn’t dubbed “Civil War” for nothing.

As the crowd berated Reigns for the entirety, The Usos went to work on breaking down the man who has come to be unbeatable. Reigns and The Usos hit each other with their best shot, sometimes with their opponents’ best shot as Jimmy and Jey came unbelievably close to victory with a double-Spear.

Although the action had been slow to get going, by the final stanza the crowd was on their feet and as has become customary in Roman Reigns matches, the referee was not. With the official down, Reigns hit a Spear as Sikoa delivered a Spike to Jey, Reigns stacked The Usos up as he had done Bryan Danielson and Edge back in 2021. But this time was different, powered on by something they didn’t quite know they had, The Usos kicked out.

Outside the ring, Sikoa tried to splash Jimmy through the announce table but the former Tag Team Champion moved, leaving Reign shellshocked at the sudden realisation that he was alone.

Jey quickly got to work in trying to dispatch Reigns but he came back with a thunderous Spear, only for his cousin to kick out and deliver a low blow that went unseen by the referee in the process. Jimmy and Jey hit Superkicks to both Sikoa and Reigns before Jey tagged in to hit a splash and score the win, leaving Jimmy an emotional wreck and almost in tears in the corner as the crowd erupted one more time.

Roman Reigns Defeated But His World Title Run Continues

Despite the chaos in The Bloodline, Roman Reigns‘ Undisputed WWE Universal Title run continues with records falling around him. The Tribal Chief’s run recently passed Pedro Morales’ 1,027-day reign with the-then WWF Championship.

Reigns’ next target will be Sammartino’s second reign with the title, which lasted a mammoth 1,237 days.
