Original Plans For Tommaso Ciampa - Johnny Gargano Reunion Revealed

Plans for the highly-anticipated reunion of Tommaso Ciampa and Johnny Gargano, collectively known as DIY, were nixed by WWE earlier this year.

According to reports from Fightful Select, the creative plans to reform DIY on the main roster were set in motion as early as the summer but were ultimately scrapped along with other storylines.

The original blueprint for the reunion was scheduled to unfold on June 19th during an episode of Raw. It was planned that Tommaso Ciampa would answer an open challenge issued by WWE World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins. However, the full match was never intended to take place as The Judgment Day was set to storm the ring and disrupt the title bout, resulting in a no-contest.

At this pivotal moment, a returning Johnny Gargano was slated to come to Ciampa’s aid, solidifying the reformation of the beloved NXT faction, DIY. However, due to changing plans and creative decisions, the DIY reunion did not materialize until October 2nd, leaving many frustrated by the sudden alterations.

When Did Tommaso Ciampa And Johnny Gargano Last Team Together In WWE?

The last time that Tommaso Ciampa and Johnny Gargano teamed together as DIY was back in December 2021 at NXT WarGames when the team of Bron Breakker, Carmelo Hayes, Grayson Waller and Tony D’Angelo took on Gargano, Ciampa, LA Knight and Pete Dunne in a WarGames match.

DIY, former NXT Tag Team Champions, achieved great success during their initial run in NXT. They captured the titles by defeating The Revival in a memorable 2 out of 3 falls match at TakeOver Toronto.

Speaking in a recent interview, Tommaso Ciampa said that had he not had this run of success and moved to the main roster earlier, he would have been fired.

First appearing as the lawyer for Muhammad Hassa, Tommaso Ciampa revealed how he was tasked with being the one to deliver an apology regarding the controversial angle.
