Ilja Dragunov believes he and Gunther are destined to clash at WWE WrestleMania.
Ilja Dragunov and The Ring General are no strangers to intense competition within the WWE. Their previous encounters have left fans in awe, with two classic matches taking place at NXT UK and NXT events. Now, as their paths continue to intersect, Dragunov believes that their destiny is to face each other on the grandest stage of them all – WrestleMania.
While Dragunov has made his mark as a top player on NXT, Gunther has become a dominant force on Raw, holding the title of the longest-reigning Intercontinental Champion. In a recent interview with Booker T on his Hall of Fame podcast, Dragunov expressed his unwavering desire to face Gunther at WrestleMania. He stated:
It must be Gunther. It must be him. There is no other choice. This is destiny.
Dragunov went on to explain the unique dynamic between them, stating that their contrasting styles and abilities create a level of emotional intensity unmatched by any other match-up.
There is no other match that makes people feel this dimension of emotions that we both can produce, just because we’re directly opposites. There is not one person that has taught me more, not one person that has pushed me more, and there is no one person that I can have a better match with on such a high level as WrestleMania.

At NXT No Mercy, Ilja Dragunov reached a new stage in his career when he defeated Carmelo Hayes to capture the NXT Championship. With the win, the Mad Dragon now has a target on his back as the entire NXT roster will be coming for his gold.
Gunther continues to defend his Intercontinental Championship, with his latest title defence coming on the 4th of September when he defeated Chad Gable, prior to this Gunther and Gable had a match for the title on August 21st which Gable managed to win but via count-out.
