Gunther Hits Massive WWE Milestone

Can anyone stop Gunther?

Despite having a reputation as one of the best in-ring workers before even signing with WWE, the leader of Imperium is arguably doing the best work of his career ever since being called up to the main roster, with matches against the likes of Sheamus and Drew McIntyre receiving critical acclaim.

Back in June 2022, The Ring General defeated Ricochet to capture the Intercontinental Championship, his first title reign on the main roster. While many expected a dominant reign, few would have predicted that Gunther would surpass The Honky Tonk Man and break the record for the longest reign with the Intercontinental Championship in company history.

With no one still able to figure out how to defeat The Ring General, the record grows longer by the day and has reached a significant number, as Gunther has now held the title for 500 days. If the Intercontinental Champion can keep a hold of the title for just 4 more days, he will surpass Brock Lesnar’s longest-ever Universal Championship reign.

As impressive as this is, the Imperium leader is still yet to surpass the even more impressive reign as United Kingdom Champion, which stands at 870 days.

Gunther Called Out By An Old Rival

Gunther’s near 900-day reign as United Kingdom Champion came to an end at the hands of the man who currently holds the NXT Championship, Ilja Dragunov. The Mad Dragon is only one of the few people who has picked up a legitimate victory over the Intercontinental Champion in WWE and looks to revisit the rivalry down the road. In a recent interview, Ilja Dragunov stated that a WrestleMania showdown with The Ring General is his destiny.
