Tony Schiavone On Darby Allin’s Crazy Bumps: “Those Things Will Come Back To Haunt You”

Darby Allin and Tony Schiavone

Darby Allin‘s daredevil ring style has caught the attention of AEW Commentator Tony Schiavone, who has concerns about the young star’s long-term well-being.

In the main event of AEW WrestleDream, Darby Allin faced Christian Cage in a TNT Title match. While numerous significant stories emerged from the bout, there has been a notable focus on the bumps that Darby Allin endured during the encounter.

Allin put his body to its limit, taking cringe-inducing falls in the match, including several onto a set of steel steps.

Speaking on his podcast “What Happened When,” Tony Schiavone gave his take on Allin’s dangerous wrestling style.

“When I saw Darby the other night hit the steps, I’m thinking, ‘God bless you, Darby, but in 30 years — 20 years — those things will come back to haunt you.”

“Take a look at Mick Foley, right? … Hulk Hogan’s had a hard time getting around, from what I understand.”

“Go back and watch any show of ours, and you could like at that and say that match would’ve been fine without that bump.”

“They do it for the fan reaction. That’s what drives them. … I get caught up in it, too — the excitement of it. But sometimes I sit back and I wonder — how many dives do we actually need in a show?”

Darby Allin Happy To Be AEW’s “Guinea Pig”

Darby Allin has commented on his risk-taking wrestling style recently, claiming that he wants to be the guy who does “crazy stuff to get more eyes on the company.”

He said the following on the BJ & Migs Daily Podcast last week;

“My big thing is, if I have to be the spokesperson for AEW to show, like, if I am the guinea pig of doing crazy stuff to get more eyes on the company, let me be that guy.”

“To me, I feel like a lot of a people in wrestling, like, ‘What’s your character?’, ‘I’m not scared of anything,’ and then in real life, they’re like, ‘Please don’t hurt me.'”
