“There Might Have Been Some Smoke To The Fire” – Drew McIntyre

Drew McIntyre

Drew McIntyre has admitted there might be some truth to the speculation around him.

2023 has been a wild ride for the Scottish Warrior. McIntyre was a regular presence on WWE television during the first portion of the year and took part in the acclaimed Triple Threat Match for the Intercontinental Title at WrestleMania 39.

After the match, McIntyre took some time off without explanation and the rumour mill went into overdrive. Much of the speculation was sparked by reports that claimed McIntyre was some way from agreeing a new contract with WWE, despite him potentially becoming a free agent in 2024.

When McInyre returned at Money In The Bank, he and Triple H laughed off speculation that he was looking to leave the company, putting his absence down to physical issues.

During a new interview with TMZ Sports, McIntyre discussed his match at SummerSlam against Gunther, as well as his recent break. Interestingly, the former World Champion said there might have been some truth to the reports about him, although stopped short of confirming which of the reports he was referring to.

“It was cool, getting the break. There were a lot of rumors and headlines on the internet when I was out, probably like 50 different things. It was amazing all the stories about me out there. When you’re not, you’re not on tv, people talk, and you know, there might have been some smoke to some fire with a few of them, but it was nice.

People were talking about me when I wasn’t there, but I did have to get some things fixed physically. Unlike injuries, I’ve had in the past. There was no rehab involved, so I was actually able to enjoy my time at home, work on some outside projects, spend time with the Mrs and the cat, and take a step outside of the bubble and kind of get perspective again.

So you’re inside the bubble. We’re 52 weeks per year. You go, go, go. Sometimes you can lose that perspective. And the last time I really had a hard look at myself outside the bubble was in 2014 when I got fired by WWE. So this time, I didn’t have to get fired, thank goodness I had some time off, and I was able to sit down, reassess things, think about what I want to achieve within the industry and as a person, and return with that mindset and come right into a huge match and I’m very excited.”

Has Drew McIntyre Signed A New Contract With WWE?

Although he’s back on WWE television, Drew McIntyre is yet to sign a new contract with the company. When questioned about what comes next, McIntyre has dismissed the importance of the details, coming that the future “doesn’t matter.”

The Scottish star will be back in action at SummerSlam when he challenges Gunther for the Intercontinental Title.
