MJF Breaks All-Time AEW Record

MJF beats Kenny Omega, again.

As of November 1st 2023, the World Champion now has the longest singular reign with the title in company history, surpassing the previous record of 346 days set by Omega. Currently standing at 347 days and increasing day by day, providing that The Devil can walk out of Full Gear 2023 still the World Champion he will become the first wrestler to hold the top prize for a full year.

Aware that his record was in danger, Omega challenged the World Champion to an impromptu match on the October 28th episode of Collision, which would be the final opportunity to prevent the record from being broken. In one of the best TV matches of 2023, The Devil pinned Omega clean to keep ahold of the Triple B and be recognised as the new benchmark within the promotion.

Addressing that he was on the verge of making history, the Generational Talent posted the following on social media in regards to his achievement:

At the stroke of midnight ill be the longest reigning world champion in AEW history. I’ve grown so much during this reign. But Im not yet satisfied. I want to get back my title from BCG. I want to successfully defend mine and my best friends Tag Titles against the Ass boys. I want to beat Jay white at Full Gear I want to make it to 365 days as your champion. I want to go down as the greatest AEW World Champion of all time. The journey towards immortality continues tomorrow @AEW

MJF Looks To 2024 And Beyond

Although the World Champion has the single-longest reign with the top title, there are others who have held onto their respective championships longer. In her first reign as Women’s Champion, Hikaru Shida was champion for 372 days. Even more impressive was the reign of former TBS Champion Jade Cargill, who held onto the title for 508 days before being eventually defeated by Kris Statlander.

Now one of the top babyfaces in AEW, MJF admitted that he never wanted people to like him.
