AEW Dynamite “Redone At The Last Minute”

Saraya with the AEW Women's World Championship

In the words of Dave Meltzer, AEW Dynamite felt thrown together because it was.

Fresh off the back of a record-breaking outing at Wembley Stadium for All In, AEW headed to Chicago to begin the very short journey to All Out on September 3rd. However, many fans were quick to notice that a number of top stars were missing, and the action felt a little more slap-dash than usual.

Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer confirmed that plans for the show were only finalised very late in the day thanks to problems out of AEW’s control.

Meltzer confirmed that Saraya and Swerve Strickland missed the show through illness and a number of stars based in Florida such as Kenny Omega were unable to fly due to Hurricane Idalia which has been battering the southern United States.

“You know that a lot of tonight’s show was redone at the last minute? Saraya and Swerve were pulled from the show due to illness reasons. I know that a bunch of the Florida guys, including Omega, couldn’t make it because of the hurricane, they couldn’t make it out to come to Chicago. I know that Jericho was there, I know there were concerns but he was there. That was one of the reasons why the show seemed thrown together because it was thrown together.”

What Happened On AEW Dynamite?

AEW Dynamite saw a number of matches announced for All Out, while there was no mention of the suspended CM Punk or Jack Perry.

The show opened with Jon Moxley getting the better of Komander as he prepares to face Orange Cassidy at AEW All Out. Cassidy ensured his own passage to the event with a win over Penta.

The Acclaimed unveiled new AEW World Trios Titles and it was announced that FTR will team with the Young Bucks to take on Bullet Club Gold at the pay-per-view.
