“Not Good” Segment Featuring Top AEW Stars Pulled From Dynamite

MJF middle fingers at AEW Dynamite

At AEW Double or Nothing, MJF will defend the AEW World Championship against Darby Allin, “Jungle Boy” Jack Perry, and Sammy Guevara.

The match featuring the “pillars” of All Elite Wrestling has drawn a mixed reaction from fans with some suggesting that the three challenges are some way short of being seen as viable and realists threats to the champion. However, others have praised the storyline as it tries to elevate three stars who have previously found themselves in the upper mid-card.

As the tension around the match increases, a frustrated and stressed MJF appeared backstage on Dynamite, and upon being questioned by Renee Paquette, slapped the microphone out of her hand and left without speaking.

Interestingly, the original plans for the segment were very different. Writing in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer reported that the segment actually featured all four competitors in the Double or Nothing match as well as Britt Baker. The segment ended with Baker saying that whoever won wouldn’t hold the title for long “Bay Bay,” a reference to her partner Adam Cole.

Meltzer added that something about the segment was deemed “not good” and it was replaced.

“The segment where MJF slapped the mic out of Renee Paquette’s hands was not the original plan. There was a promo segment involving everyone in the match and Britt Baker was involved. It ended with Baker saying that even if he wins, he’s not going to hold the title long Bay Bay. The idea is that Cole gets the next big title chase against whoever wins the match.

But there was something about it that was deemed not good and instead of doing it again, they changed to what they did. Maybe the decision was not to let people know Cole was getting the next shot meaning people would figure MJF was winning, although everyone figures MJF is winning as there was 50-to-1 odds favoring him.”
