“That Dude Is Something Special”: Bryan Danielson Applauds AEW Rising Star

Bryan Danielson knows firsthand how talented Swerve Strickland is.

The American Dragon and Strickland went one-on-one for the first time ever on the October 10th episode of Dynamite. The winner of the match would go on to challenge Christian Cage for the TNT Championship. Danielson won the match after “Hangman” Adam Page caused interference, preventing Strickland from utilising Prince Nana’s crown.

Although Strickland lost the match, it was the latest star-making performance from the former Tag Team Champion following a string of impressive matches that also included victory over Page at WrestleDream.

Speaking with Sports Nightly, Danielson reflected on his time in the ring with Strickland and respects his opponent even more:

“[October 10] was the first time I had ever been in the ring with Swerve and I’d watched him wrestling before and he’s that next level of great, you know what I mean? Seeing him is one thing, being in the ring with him is a completely different thing, but that dude is something special,”

Strickland has also commented on his aspirations in All Elite Wrestling and has addressed his rise to the main event scene. Revealing his ultimate goal in the promotion, Swerve Strickland wants to become the first black World Champion in AEW.

Bryan Danielson Outlines Retirement Plans

Danielson has gone on record that this will be his final run in wrestling, looking to retire when his daughter reaches 7 years old. Following their in-ring careers winding down, many wrestlers will still be seen around the entertainment world either as actors, announcers or pursuing reality TV. When all is said and done for Bryan Danielson, he never wants to be on TV again.

Unfortunately, Bryan Danielson’s potential retirement year has hit a snag as he has suffered an injury that will leave him out of action for the remainder of 2023.

H/t to Fightful.
