Jon Moxley Stuns CM Punk To Become Undisputed AEW World Champion

Jon Moxley has defeated CM Punk in shocking fashion to become the Undisputed AEW World Champion.

The August 24th episode of AEW Dynamite played host to one of the most anticipated matches in recent memory between CM Punk and Jon Moxley.

With the crowd at fever pitch, the match was over in double-quick time as CM Punk delivered a kick to Moxley that did more damage to his own foot than his rival. With Punk struggling, Moxley smelt blood in the water and doubled-down on his assault of the World Champion.

Punk was returning to action for the first time in months after suffering a broken foot. It’s perhaps interesting to note that Punk grabbed his standing foot, rather than the foot he used to kick Moxley.

With Punk beaten down, Moxley scored the pin after a second Death Rider, even flipping off the crowd in the process.

At time of writing, Punk’s injury status us unknown.

The match on Dynamite played out against a backdrop of significant controversy and rumours of locker room unrest. Prior to the show, AEW President Tony Khan held a meeting with talent to address the issues, while a number of top AEW stars also held court.

Ahead of the show Punk had been forced to deny that he was unhappy in AEW, after he reportedly went into business for himself in a recent promo where he attacked Hangman Adam Page. Punk claimed that he loves AEW while Tony Khan said the issues were a result of “unresolved anger” between the pair.
