Rob Van Dam On How Paul Heyman Would Handle Backstage Confrontations

Paul Heyman cuts a promo alongside Rob Van Dam as WWE and ECW Champion

Much ado was made about CM Punk‘s physical altercation with Jack Perry at All In, but Rob Van Dam knows how that would’ve been rectified by Paul Heyman in ECW.

Speaking on his latest “1 Of A Kind” podcast, Rob Van Dam gave his thoughts on the backstage fight between the two, something that played a part in Punk eventually being fired from the company. When RVD was reading all the news that was breaking about the confrontation, he was surprised it was getting so much attention.

“It happened, and it wasn’t that big of a deal. I’m sure people are going to sh*t on this opinion, but that’s what I said when I saw that every single site was picking this up. I said to Katie, I’m sure it’s my old school fundamentals, but I said ‘I don’t think this should be that big of a deal.’ She said, ‘Right, they’re both fighters, right?’”

Van Dam noted how matters get tense during press conferences and weigh-ins at UFC, but even wrestling doesn’t have that aspect of win or losing, nor having an actual physical advantage between opponents. The conflict can stem from elsewhere.

Rob Van Dam Says Paul Heyman Would ‘Put Them In The Ring’ ASAP

Van Dam added that he knows from experience as to what his former boss Paul Heyman would do down in ECW.

“Usually what would happen is that the promoter would put those two in the ring as soon as possible. That happened every time that I can think about it. That’s what Paul did with me and Taz. It’s always been that way and I always find that people work it out by working together.”

RVD notoriously got into with Taz during their ECW days, but the two patched things up and ended up becoming friends. That appears to not be a possibility for Perry and Punk, as the latter is now gone from AEW and the former is indefinitely suspended.
