AEW Have Considered Stripping Thunder Rosa Of AEW Women’s World Championship

Thunder Rosa with AEW Women's World Championship

Thunder Rosa has held the AEW Women’s Championship since defeating Britt Baker at AEW Dynamite St Patrick’s Day Slam in a Steel Cage Match back in March. Since then she has seen off the likes of Nyla Rose, Toni Storm and Serena Deeb, but her reign has been far from straightforward.

The star hasn’t wrestled since an AEW Dark taping on August 10th, and subsequently pulled out of an AEW Women’s World Title defence at All Out against Toni Storm citing a back injury. Despite the injury she has remained in possession of her prized championship, with Toni Storm being crowned Interim Champion in her absence. However, with no timeline on when she may return, there have been calls for her to be stripped of the gold.

Tony Khan Says Thunder Rosa’s Injury Issues Creates A Difficult Situation

With AEW Full Gear just around the corner AEW President Tony Khan hosted a media call which covered a whole range of subjects. One of which was the future of Thunder Rosa and the AEW Women’s Championship. During the call Khan admitted that he had considered removing the title from Rosa, but is trying to give the star every opportunity to come back.

“It’s something we have considered,” Khan said. “It’s something to consider. I’m still weighing the pros and cons. Thunder Rosa’s a great wrestler, and it’s unfortunate that she’s injured. It’s kept her out a long time.

It’s not an easy situation,” Khan added, “and I try to take everything on a case-by-case basis, and am trying to give Thunder Rosa every opportunity to come back and defend the championship. But eventually, you would have to crown a lineal champion.”

At AEW Full Gear Toni Storm will put her Interim Women’s Title on the line against Jamie Hayter. Meanwhile, Thunder Rosa recently said that she is “coming back soon” although there’s no firm date on when that comeback will happen.
