It’s official: Roman Reigns and Jey Uso will meet one-on-one at SummerSlam.
The two men have been at odds since Jey turned his back on The Bloodline to align with his brother Jimmy against the faction. This set up a match between The Usos and Solo Sikoa and Reigns at Money In The Bank.
Impressively it was The Usos scoring the win, with Jey becoming the first man to pin Reigns since December 2019. On the following episode of SmackDown, the two sides clashed once more and Reigns and Sikoa delivered a stunning beatdown to Jimmy as Jey was forced to watch on.
With Jimmy out of action for the foreseeable future, Jey has sworn revenge, and on July 21st he met Reigns to determine the ‘Rules of Engagement.’
In a drama-filled closing segment, Jey tore up the contract for their planned match and he and Reigns shook hands to confirm the bout.
The pair are now set to meet in Tribal Combat, which means that Reigns’ title as Tribal Chief will also be on the line as well as the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship.
Roman Reigns Currently “Wrestler Of The Year” – Dave Meltzer
Since becoming the Tribal Chief and turning heel in 2020, Roman Reigns has been on the best run of his career and has been praised for his work by fans and critics alike. Writing in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer gave his thoughts on who could be the ‘Wrestler of the Year’ in 2023, and he believes that Reigns is well in the running and could even be the favourite.
“Roman Reigns may have the best case. He’s the biggest star for a company that is setting multiple records. And when it comes to non-major PPV shows, the ones he’s been on have done better than the ones he hasn’t. His match quality has been very high and his Zayn and Cody Rhodes matches were high-profile and his tag team match with Solo Sikoa vs, The Usos was as well. The lone negative is that he’s only had seven matches in the first six months of the year.”
SummerSlam 2023 marks three years since Reigns turned heel and began his acclaimed run as the Head of The Table.
