Eric Bischoff Blasts “Amateurish” CM Punk, Praises Tony Khan

Eric Bischoff has slammed CM Punk’s recent actions as ‘amateurish’ and praised Tony Khan’s decision to sever ties with the Chicago native.

Former WCW President Bischoff spoke about about Punk’s recent release from AEW on a recent edition of his popular podcast 83 Weeks, explaining that he was glad the situation was now at an end:

I think it was it was something that had to happen. We saw that six months ago, or so when Punk had his first meltdown in that media scrum. I’m just glad it’s over for the same reason I’m glad the mergers over, you know for WWE and UFC because now all of that bad air, all that negativity, all that drama.

And I’m not putting it on Punk by the way. I think the way Punk handled stuff was stupid. I think some of the things he said when he made his way into AEW was pretty stupid. But that’s just my opinion, based on my tastes. But I think it’s not up for debate. I think the way Phil handled things backstage and with regard to his issues with Tony or with AEW or talent, I think it was very amateurish. And I’m just glad it’s over.

BIschoff would go on to explain that AEW now had a chance to press reset and make the company a more enjoyable place to work:

You know, it’s an opportunity. This will sound strange in a way, but it’s an opportunity to just hit the reset button. And focus on the talent you have, there’s a lot of great talent in the AEW, a lot of great talent in AEW, just identify them, focus on them bring the company together, probably everybody backstage was affected one way or the other, whether they were directly involved in it or just happen to be, you know, splattered with the sh*t that was hitting the fan every week. It’s a negative vibe.

It just takes away from the fun. I mean, if you can’t have fun in the professional wrestling business, you’re not capable of having fun anywhere.

WWE Hall Of Famer Bischoff applauded Tony Khan for making a swift decision to release Punk and believes the AEW President made the correct call:

“It just makes it better and makes your performance better. As opposed to being drenched in the drama and the negativity even if you’re not involved. It’s still there. It’s like a just dark shadow over everything. It affects the product eventually.

So I’m glad for AEW Tony made a decision. I think he made the right decision. Now’s the time to hit the reset button. Blow it all that bad air, open the windows, bring in some fresh air galvanise the roster. get everybody excited about moving forward and just get past all this nonsense.”

In a more recent episode, Eric Bischoff has been very complimentary of Adam Copeland’s AEW booking.
