Arn Anderson Praises “God” William Regal

Arn Anderson

Arn Anderson has revealed his high level of respect for William Regal.

WWE Hall of Famer Anderson has been reflecting on the legacy of the legendary British Superstar and revealed that he heaped praise upon the Blackpool native’s style to other’s backstage.

Speaking on a recent edition of his podcast ‘ARN’, Anderson waxed lyrical about Regal’s unique in-ring style:

“I loved it. When we first went over to England and Regal was [the] local god, they had him have like a tryout match when we were over there, and buddy, I was singing his praises.

I love that style, that European style with those uppercuts and the chain wrestling, and, you know, just slugging it out and basically keeping it on the mat. I love it. I love that stuff, and I loved Steven Regal’s whole demeanor.

‘Lordship’ was just a smarta**, and he just carried himself in that ring. He just generated tons of heat. But still, you looked at him and went, as a man, you looked at him, ‘That’s a tough son of a b****.'”

Did Arn Anderson Ever Wrestle William Regal?

Both men spent large parts of their career portraying heel characters, so bouts between them were few and far between.

They did, however, meet occasionally on WCW television in the mid 1990’s. In September 1993 the pair battled to a time-limit draw on WCW Saturday Night, with Regal retaining his WCW Television Championship as a result.

Regal would defeat Anderson to defend his title once again in a near-30 minute bout at WCW Superbrawl IV in February 1994

Anderson made a third unsuccessful attempt to pry the WCW Television Championship from Regal in early December 1996, but the wily Brit retained once more as the duo once again fought to a time-limit draw.

Former Horseman Anderson is widely respected in his own right, with WWE Hall Of Famer The Undertaker once naming him as the best technical wrestler he had ever worked with.
