“Leaving AEW Was The Easiest Thing I Ever Did” – Cody Rhodes

Cody Rhodes cuts a promo on WWE Raw

Cody Rhodes has given more insight into his decision to leave AEW.

Back in February Cody Rhodes rocked wrestling when he revealed he and wife Brandi would be leaving AEW after their contracts expired. This announcement came after weeks of reports regarding Rhodes’ status, including the revelation that he’d been working without a contract for a number of weeks.

The reason behind Rhodes’ exit has remained hidden with both Rhodes and AEW boss Tony Khan agreeing to not publicly discuss the matter. This led to all kinds of wild theories about backstage fallouts and more.

During a recent interview with GQ Sports, Rhodes was asked about deciding to leave AEW and whether it was a difficult decision to close that chapter of his life. Perhaps surprisingly, Rhodes said it was the easiest thing he ever did, as it was simply time to move on. He again hinted at an undisclosed “personal issue” in the process.

“No, it was the easiest thing I ever did. It’s because I had a personal issue that I wasn’t going through, over, or around. I was just going to steer clear of it. If anything, I wanted to look at what we had done at AEW and say, ‘Amazing, what a wonderful time, a beautiful memory, and very special in every way. Now it’s time to move on.’

You know, all good things. It certainly was like that with me. So I mean it not in a negative way, like I was happy to burn rubber and speed out, but it just wasn’t a decision that was difficult for me at all. Or for Brandi [Rhodes, his wife and former AEW executive,”

Did Cody Rhodes Always Plan To Return To WWE?

Speaking on a new Peacock documentary looking at his return, Cody Rhodes admitted he always kind of knew he’d be back in a WWE ring. The American Nightmare said that even when he was organising All In before AEW even officially launched he was trying to make the event like a WWE event.

Rhodes will be back in action at SummerSlam when he takes on Brock Lesnar.
