Eric Bischoff Suggests Surprising Final Opponent For Sting

Eric Bischoff would like to see Sting have his final match against one of The Icon’s greatest rivals but is aware that the chances of it happening are highly unlikely.

As seen on the October 18th episode of AEW Dynamite, the former World Champion announced that he would be retiring in spring 2024 and the match at Revolution would be his final outing. With the Hall of Famer having the choice of anyone he wants who is not contracted to WWE as his final opponent, who should get that honour?

Speaking on Strictly Business, Bischoff stated that the veteran’s final opponent should be none other than the one who made Sting into The Icon, Ric Flair. However, Bischoff does state that he is fantasy-booking this match as Ric Flair has confirmed that he had his final match in July 2022:

Well there is, it’ll never happen, nor do I think it should happen. But it would be cool if it would or could. I’d love to see him and Ric. That’s a full-circle scenario right there. Ric Flair is the guy who put Sting on the map, and I think it would be just awesome. And again, I fully recognise that I should never say never. But highly unlikely that it is, probably that it would ever happen. If it were possible, wouldn’t it be awesome?

The Icon and The Nature Boy were two of the biggest names in WCW, facing off against each other on the first and last episodes of Nitro. One of the best matches between the two legends took place at Clash at the Champions 1988, where both men went to a 45-minute time-limit draw. At the 1990 Great American Bash, Sting would defeat Flair to win the NWA World Heavyweight Championship for the first time in his career.

Eric Bischoff Praises AEW Star

The Hall of Famer has been keeping track of what has been going on week to week in All Elite Wrestling. Following the first week of The Rated R Superstar becoming All Elite, Eric Bischoff spoke very highly of the booking of Adam Copeland.

With Flair now announced as a permanent member of the AEW roster, the Hall of Famer has commented on the best way to use Ric Flair in AEW.
