Eric Bischoff Claims WWE Doesn’t Need CM Punk

CM Punk & Eric Bischoff

Eric Bischoff has weighed in on the speculation surrounding CM Punk.

As soon as the news broke that Punk had been fired by AEW, he was linked with a return to WWE. That’s despite the star leaving the sports entertainment giant in highly controversial circumstances back in 2014.

Punk hasn’t stepped into a WWE ring since the 2014 Royal Rumble. Following the show, Punk walked out citing problems with injuries and burnout. The star later alleged that he was pressured into working while injured, and his concerns weren’t taken seriously. This compounded existing frustration regarding creative.

Speaking on Strictly Business, Bischoff gave his thoughts on reports that Punk won’t be returning to WWE. Bischoff explained that while Punk could still be valuable, the company simply doesn’t need him.

“I mean, you know, not surprised. But also wouldn’t be surprised if that situation changes down the road. You know, we talked about it here. I still believe like, is there equity? Is there value in Phil Brooks as the character CM Punk. Yes, I do. Just WWE need him? Absolutely they don’t. It’s not. It’s not binary.

I mean, do they need him? No. But could he could he be an asset? Yes. But I think the only way that could happen is if there was a significant meeting of the minds and convincing that the baggage that comes with, that has come in the past with Phil Brooks is going to be left somewhere else and not brought into WWE if Phil Brooks the person not calling him Phil Brooks out of this respect.

But if the person can convince the other person in WWE that’s making that decision that the character of CM Punk can show up at the doorstep without all the baggage that comes with him. I think there’s business to be had.

WWE Turns Down Chance To Bring Back CM Punk

The comments from Eric Bischoff come after it was reported that WWE walked away from making a deal with CM Punk.

It’s believed that the two-time AEW World Champion wanted to return to the company, but Vince McMahon said no.

A further report has reiterated that a deal between CM Punk and WWE is “dead,” although the door is never completely closed.
