Some Within WWE Saw Tony Khan Social Media Post As “A Declaration Of War”

Tony Khan AEW

Tony Khan’s recent posts on social media haven’t gone unnoticed by WWE.

On October 10th, AEW Dynamite and NXT went head-to-head with both sides doing all they could to ensure ‘victory.’

In the end, it was NXT that earned a clear ratings win with a show that featured appearances from John Cena, LA Knight, Cody Rhodes, Asuka, and even The Undertaker.

However, that didn’t stop Tony Khan from trying to claim a kind of moral victory. In a post on social media, Khan said AEW had actually broken two long-standing WWE records, as Cena nor Undertaker had ever been featured on a WWE show that drew less than a million viewers.

Writing in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer commented on the post, revealing some within WWE felt it was a “declaration of war.”

“Khan noted that the “no million” tweet was a response to the endless people who tweet at him every Thursday after the show does usually the top one or two numbers of the previous night, but that’s considered bad because they don’t hit one million viewers.

There was also a strategic message in posting in the sense the one million post came at the same time he released the Jay White vs. Penta match for next week, with the idea that the post would lead to more engagement for the announcement of that match.

Those in WWE did contact us very quickly after that post with the idea that it was like they saw it as a declaration of war by still discussing the subject. Of course that declaration really dates back to January 2019.”

Some AEW Personnel Want Tony Khan To Step Back From Social Media

The posts from the AEW boss seemingly haven’t gone down well with everyone in AEW either. It’s been reported that his “scorched earth” policy has been questioned by some, and others feel Tony Khan should take a break from social media altogether.
