John Cena To Host WWE Payback

John Cena on WWE SmackDown

John Cena will be the special guest host of WWE Payback.

The 16-time World Champion opened the September 1st episode of SmackDown to a great ovation to kick off his latest run with WWE. The veteran announced he’d be hosting Payback before he was joined in the ring by Jimmy Uso.

Jimmy accused Cena of being the same as Roman Reigns, he just does it with a smile. Cena quickly fired back, telling Jimmy that the wrong Uso quit. At this, Jimmy decided he was done talking and tried to hit Cena with a Superkick, but he was only met with an AA in return. Despite appearing in-person at the event, Cena was not the top merchandise seller on the night.

How Long Is John Cena Staying With WWE?

Prior to appearing on SmackDown, it had been announced that John Cena would be appearing on the show for the next seven weeks.

In the midst of this run the star will also be heading to India for Superstar Spectacle where he’ll team with Seth Rollins to take on Ludwig Kaiser and Giovanni Vinci.

There’s been no word on who Cena will be working with during this stint, but there have been reports that he could clash with Cody Rhodes. The American Nightmare’s future has appeared uncertain in recent weeks, with the star battling with the Judgment Day after getting the better of Brock Lesnar at SummerSlam.

John Cena hasn’t wrestled since being defeated by Austin Theory at WrestleMania 39.

In recent news, Dave Meltzer’s star ratings for WWE Payback have been revealed.
