WWE SmackDown

It was WWE SmackDown with Roman Reigns-Jey Uso exchanging words, Rey Mysterio facing Santos Escobar and a whole lot more.

This week’s Smackdown took place at the Smoothie King Center in New Orleans. SummerSlam is just eight days away on August 5th.

Jey Uso opened the show with a promo while wearing a shirt that said “The Real Chief” on it. Roman Reigns quickly interrupted with Paul Heyman and Solo Sikoa. Heyman did not have the WWE and Universal Titles with him this week while Reigns had the gold Undisputed WWE Universal Title.

Roman Reigns and Jey Uso exchanged words. Roman said that the fans only liked The Usos because Roman made them relevant. Roman told Jey he became the Right Hand Man three years ago because Jimmy was hurt at the time. Reigns called him “Little Jey” during their exchange. Jey told Reigns that he was loyal to him and The Bloodline, but now he has to save it. Reigns said if he loses then he’s still Roman Reigns while he wonders what happens to Jey Uso if he loses.

When Reigns wondered why Jey thinks he can win, Jey replied with the truth: “It’s because I already beat you. I pinned you. At SummerSlam, I’m going to beat you again.” The fans were behind Jey and chanted “Uso” during the segment.

After a break, Grayson Waller approached Jey Uso backstage. Waller invited Jey onto his talk show in the future. Waller annoyed Jey while saying that “Little Jey” would lose at SummerSlam. Jey punched Waller in the jaw to shut him up.

Match #1: Santos Escobar defeated Rey Mysterio – They were into the third segment of the match when the show returned from a break and Rey was being checked on by a doctor. The WWE doctor deemed Rey unable to compete. Rey hit his head on the floor when Escobar did a suicide dive before the break. It was announced that Rey couldn’t compete further, so Escobar was ruled the winner.

The win by Escobar means that he will get a shot at Austin Theory’s US Title. That match will take place on the August 11th edition of SmackDown.

A Bianca Belair interview was interrupted by Women’s Tag Team Champions Chelsea Green & Sonya Deville. They complained about Belair and Charlotte Flair getting so much attention despite not being champions like them. Charlotte walked in to suggest a tag team match. Belair didn’t seem thrilled about it.

Match #2: LA Knight defeated Ashante “Thee” Adonis (w/Top Dolla & B-Fab) – Easy win by Knight hitting the Blount Force Trauma after about two minutes. Knight did a pre-match babyface promo.

Jey Uso was told by WWE Official Adam Pearce that Grayson Waller wanted to face Jey in a match. Jey was cool with it.

Bobby Lashley and The Street Profits (Montez Ford & Angelo Dawkins) were seated backstage on leather chairs having some wine and talking. Lashley was in a suit, Ford was dressed well and Dawkins was in athletic gear. Lashley brought out some suits for Dawkins because he wanted him to dress like that and Lashley said they are on him. Dawkins and Ford were impressed.

Match #3:Charlotte Flair & Bianca Belair defeated Chelsea Green & Sonya Deville – Belair looked like she was going to hit KOD on Green, Flair tagged herself in and hit a big boot to Green leading to Flair getting the pin. It was not for the Women’s Tag Team Titles held by Green & Deville. After the match, Belair was mad about Flair tagging herself in.

It was announced that there will be a SummerSlam Battle Royal presented by Slim Jim.

LA Knight and Sheamus (with Butch & Ridge Holland) talked to Adam Pearce about the SummerSlam Battle Royal. Pearce said they’re both in the battle royal and they can have a match next week on Smackdown too. Sheamus said “Yeah” in Knight’s face.

Match #4: Karrion Kross (w/Scarlett) defeated Karl Anderson – Kross won by pinfall in about three minutes with a new finisher called The Final Prayer. It was a slam after he had Anderson on his shoulders.

Post match, Kross applied the Kross Jacket submission on Anderson, so The OC’s AJ Styles, Luke Gallows and Michin ran out for the save leading to Kross & Scarlett leaving.

Match #5: Jey Uso defeated Grayson Waller – Jey won with a Spear followed by an Uso Splash from the top rope. Roman Reigns, Solo Sikoa and Paul Heyman watched some of the match from ringside.

After the match, Solo attacked Jey, who hit a superkick on Solo. When Roman Reigns entered the ring, Jey hit a Spear on Reigns. When Jey went up top, Solo shoved him down. Reigns and Solo did a Spear/Samoan Spike combo on Jey twice. Reigns told Jey he can’t handle this. Reigns celebrated to end the show.

Coming Up On WWE Friday Night SmackDown:

Next week on Smackdown, LA Knight will face Sheamus in singles action.

On the August 11th edition of SmackDown, Austin Theory will defend the United States Championship against Santos Escobar.
