AEW Dynamite Results – August 9, 2023

AEW Dynamite featured The Young Bucks facing The Hardys, Blackpool Combat Club against Lucha Bros and Hikaru Shida defending the AEW Women’s Title.

This week’s episode of Dynamite took place at the Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio.

There was a meeting between the Jericho Appreciation Society in the ring. Everybody in the group quit on Chris Jericho. Daniel Garcia was first followed by Jake Hager, followed by pregnant Tay Conti and Anna Jay quit as well. Angelo Parker and Matt Menard also quit while telling personal stories. Sammy Guevera was last and he quit on Jericho too. Jericho was left all alone since the Jericho Appreciation Society officially disbanded.

Chris Jericho was backstage and told Don Callis he’ll give him an answer next week if Jericho wants to join the Don Callis Family group.

Match #1:The Young Bucks (Matt & Nick Jackson) beat The Hardys (Matt & Jeff Hardy). The Bucks won with the BTE Trigger on Matt and Nick Jackson pinned Matt Hardy to win.

After the match, FTR walked out with the AEW Tag Team Champions. They had a staredown with The Young Bucks. It’s official for AEW All In: FTR defending the AEW Tag Team Titles against The Young Bucks.

It was announced that at AEW All In, the Women’s Title will be defended in a Fatal 4-Way Match.

The AEW World Champion MJF and Adam Cole had a buddy bonding segment at a trampoline park. MJF was throwing dodgeball balls at kids. It was a comedy segment.

Match #2:Jack Perry defeated Rob Van Dam to retain the FTW Title in RVD’s first AEW match. Perry won with a low blow, then he sent RVD into a chair and did a rollup to win.

MJF & Adam Cole did a promo talking about their match at AEW All In with MJF defending the World Title against Cole. They talked about how they should challenge for the ROH Tag Team Titles at the All In Zero Hour pre-show. Roderick Strong showed up to complain about Cole hanging out with MJF. The Kingdom arrived on the stage to hug Strong to support him. Cole shoved MJF saying he was friends with MJF, but he is also friends with Strong. MJF said it was fine for Cole to check on Strong, so Cole left.

Match #3:Blackpool Combat Club – Jon Moxley & Claudio Castagnoli defeated Lucha Brothers – Penta El Zero Miedo & Rey Fenix. Mox & Claudio won when Claudio took off Penta’s mask and Moxley rolled up Penta while grabbing the tights to win. Fenix hit a moonsault on Wheeler Yuta on the floor right before that, so he was unable to make the save.

After the match, the BCC trio of Moxley, Claudio & Yuta beat up the Lucha Brothers. There were AEW referees there to stop it.

Kenny Omega was interviewed backstage. Kenny said Jim Ross will interview him next week on Dynamite where Kenny will speak more about his plans for All In.

The Mogul Embassy group led by Swerve Strickland did a promo in the ring. AR Fox called out Darby Allin, who said he tried to help Fox when he needed it because Fox helped Darby in the past. Allin said he was happy that Fox got to AEW on his own. Allin said that Fox has friends now, but Allin had friends too.

It was announced moments later that at All In, Sting & Darby Allin will face Swerve Strickland & AR Fox in a Coffin Match.

Match #4:Hikaru Shida defeated Anna Jay to retain the AEW Women’s Title. Shida won with a jumping kick to the head. Angelo Parker & Matt Menard were with Jay for the match.

After Shida’s win, the AEW Women’s Title match at All In looks like this: Hikaru Shida vs. Toni Storm vs. Winner of Saraya/Skye Blue (Rampage on Friday) vs. Winner of The Bunny/Britt Baker (Dynamite next week).
